RAM LEISURE

WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Summary by Phil Jones

The top action in the Youth arena was in the opening round of the Welsh Youth Cup and Borras Park Albion scrapped it out at Dean Road with old adversaries Gresford Athletic Colts. In absolutely horrendous conditions, both sides took ages to size each other up so there was a tentative start with Johnny Taylor having the best chance but firing against the post. Luke Kavanagh was a commanding player in the heart of midfield for Borras and his tussle with Paul Mitchell and Nathan Pugh was in main ways the highlight of the match. It was goal-less at the break but Borras lost their cutting edge when Declan Bourne was taken off injured at the interval.

Gresford boasted several players who 24 hours earlier had being playing in the Welsh Cup for their first eleven so on balance, they did start the tie as favourites and they were the side to first find the net, Taylor was given oceans of space to turn from having his back to goal to drill the ball home from inside the box.

The Borras heads dropped slightly and throwing caution to the wind, Steffan Edwards broke down the left flank with 10 minutes to go, twisted and turned and was eventually chopped down for a clear cut penalty which Kevin Hope coolly despatched to cement the win.

In the Under 12 League Section One, league leaders Mold Juniors took a commanding lead at Acrefair with a Lee Jones treble, the hosts hit back to take a point and ended Mold’s 100% record with strikes from Josh Evans, Owen Roberts and Gafyn Williams to salvage a point.

Brymbo Lodge were sunk 6-2 by Queens Park who were in riveting form and their marksmen were Callum Jones(2), Cian Jones(2), Casey Roberts and Tyrone Hopson. Matt Turner hit ack with a double blast which included the best goal of the day.

FC Borras Rangers shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with with Marford and Gresford Albion who cancelled out an opener from Steve Thomas through Jack Bunkell.

Dominic White led the Marchwiel United charge with a four goal romp, Rob Wood, Ryan Reid and Jack Edwards completed the spree in a 7-4 success against Park Youth who hot back through Zack Bushell, Jon Paul Lewis and Andy Barrett.

In Section Two, Ruthin Town were on song, they clinched a fabulous 6-2 success at Garden Village, Tirion Roberts converted a hat-trick with Ifan Hafal, Steve Willsdon and Iwan Davies completing the spree. Adam Denoven and Luke Jones replied.

Borras Park went nap through Danny Jones(3), Adam Mills and Joseph Hardwell as they defeated Maelor

Chirk Youth fell to a heavy 12-1 defeat to the hands of Borras Park Rangers and netting their consolation goal was Jack Kynaston direct from a corner. Chalking up the Rangers haul were Zach Forbes(2), Curtis Neale, George Ford, James Roberts, Tom Duckett(2), Matt Thomas(2) and Zach Degale.

Llangollen were trailing to strikes from Ian Hughes, Liam Jones and Dan Harrison against Rhos Aelwyd who pulled things back to 3-2 with efforts from Danny Weir and Joe Morris.

At Under 13 level in Section One, the top action was at Cefn United who led the table at start of play but they were peppered 9-0 at home by Llay United who have leapfrogged into equal second spot. Luke Bagnall fired a treble, Ryan Fisher(2), Danny Birkenhead, sub James Bagnall and John Jones.

As a result of the Cefn demise, Penycae Youth go top following their 7-3 win against Llangollen Youth. Ryan M and Ryan A Jones bagged a brace of goals each with Callum Edge(2) and Josh Austin also on the scoresheet. Reducing the margin were Richard Griffiths, Louis Jones and Ryan Hughes.

Garden Village had a comfortable 5-2 passage against Rhosddu United but it was a keenly contested affair. Tom Seward, Luke Denoven, Joe Harper(2) and Rhys Hughes made up the Village nap hand with class act Amy Willsher and Carl Shone reducing the margin.

Maelor Youth shared four goals and the points with Chirk Youth, Sam Bell and Ryan Walters notched for Maelor with Nick Pearce and Gavin Mazarella replying.

Park Youth broke their duck to defeat Venture 5-0, on target were Mike Edwards, Tom Williams, Liam Fisher(2) and Jack Hughes.

Turning to Section Two, we now have three sides, Brickfield Rangers, Rhos Aelwyd and Ruthin Town all sharing top spot with 10 points.

Marchwiel United made quite an impression in their re-arranged game at Ruthin Town who they pushed all of the way. Phil Roberts, Andy Mangan, Kristian Pierce and Matt Richards just shaded it for Ruthin with Gareth Evans weighing in with a double salvo for Marchwiel.

Rhos Aelwyd had a convincing 4-0 success against Borras Park Albion, it was the usual suspects who found the net once more and I am referring to Iolo Francis, Taylor Jasper, new kid on the block Josh Griffiths and Ifan Hughes.

Coedpoeth United couldn’t contain a strong Brickfield Rangers side which clinched a 7-0 victory with efforts from Jake Peckham who scored a hat-trick, Jake McDermott, Jack Pawley(2) and Tom Williams.

Bala went down 2-0 a home to Marford and Gresford Albion whose marksman was new signing Joe Broderick.

Liam Williams gave Brymbo Lodge an early lead against Corwen Youth who replied through Yaz Yasseen.

In the Under 14 League Section One, there was a top of the table clash this week between Ruthin and FC Borras which ended with Borras running out clear winners. Hey opened their account through skipper Liam Humphreys who scored direct from a corner. Rob Hooson broke through the Ruthin defence to make it 2-0 but back came Ruthin through Lewis Isaac. Callum White restored the two goal cushion finishing off a good move. Sub James O'Brien made an immense contribution in the second half, scoring twice in a short period of time. Rob Hooson and Captain Liam Humphreys chipped
in with a further goal a piece. Nick Scheising ran on to a through ball from Ryan Davies to seal the win. Lewis Isaacs of Ruthin scored his second with the game finishing at 8-2.

Chirk Youth had a narrow 3-2 win over Bala courtesy of strikes from Nathan Cooke, Tom Jones and Matt Goddard.

Marchwiel United chalked up a 3-2 victory over Brymbo Lodge with efforts from Andy Hughes(2) and Tom Murphy with Vaughan Williams and Gavin Williams hitting back.

Ben Rogers struck twice for Marford and Gresford Albion as they were held to a 2-2 draw with Johnstown whose two goal response came from the impressive Emily Brown.

Penycae Youth got their first point of the season on the board aftet holding third placed Garden Village to a 4-4 draw. The Village scorers were Alex Bramwell, Kyle Roberts(2) and a stunning shot from distance from Tom Parry.

Turning to Section Two, Borras Park Albion won their top of the table clash with Broncoed Tigers 4-0 thanks to goals from Sean Price(2), Tom Mayers and Thomas Wells.

Lewis Jones bagged both of the Brickfield goals despite their 9-2 reversal against Llangollen.

Llay United were sunk 3-0 by Queens Park who were on target through Bobby Christopher, Ryan Jones and Rhys Foulkes.

Matt Manual grabbed both of the Park Youth goals as they were beaten 4-2 by Coedpoeth United who shaded this encounter with strikes from Danny Bennion(2), Rhys Hughes and Ryan Jones.

Rhosddu United fell to a heavy defeat against Maelor Youth who nominated their opponents for team of the week for their sheer doggedness and true sportsmanship. Making a huge impact for Maelor were Tom Cusworth who weighed in with a six goal salvo and Lewis Williams who netted five times. Ben Healey, an OG and Tom Mottershead accounted for the rest.

At Under 15 League level in Section One, don't be fooled by the score line, 10-2 to Borras in their home game with Llay, this was certainly not as one sided as the score suggests. Liam Williams opened the Borras account with double salvo’s from Nathan Williams and Ben Hughes to put Borras in command. Alan Hume who oozed class scored for Llay with a lob over the Borras keeper. Second half saw goals from Martin Storey(2), Danny Williams, Alex Valyandis and Daniel Jones extend the Borras advantage. Hume continued with his rich vein of form to get his second of the match, which gives him a goal in each game so far this season.

Bala held Garden Village to a shock 5-5 draw. Louis Roberts bagged a hat-trick and Luke Bednarek made up the visitors nap hand.

Chirk Youth slammed Marford and Gresford Albion 5-1, Josh Roberts, Keirn Williams(2), Simon Williams and Josh Langford were Chirk’s scorers.

Coedpoeth United flopped 11-1 at home to Ruthin Town, Ian Williams was top gun with four goals, Ben Jones(2), Adam Eden(2), Alex Gill(2) and Jack Higgins were all on the scoresheet.

Marchwiel United proved too strong for Rhosddu United who they crushed 7-1. On target were Phil Tinsley(2), Jordan Davies with a hat-trick, Kris Dickenson and Peter Atkins.

Rhostyllen Youth had an odd goal in seven victory over Park Youth who had led three times with strikes from Alex Mills(2) and Ryan Griffiths. The host turned the game around to win 4-3 with efforts from Keiran Antloos(2), John McGrath and Kinisha Nkonda.

Completing the days play, Ruabon Villa 2000 lost 3-1 at home to Rhos Aelwyd who broke their duck with strikes from Gareth Jones(2) and Matt Williams.
