Saturday 27th January 2007

Summary by Phil Jones

The days top action was in the NEWFA Challenge Cup and most games went with form.

Chirk Youth just shaded things 3-2 against Johnstown Youth with efforts from Nathan Cooke(2) and Matt Goddard.

CPI Bala went out of the competition to the hand of Hawarden Rangers who narrowly won this encounter 5-4.

Llangollen just out muscled Buckley Town 8-5 and Kristian Jones, Sam Evans and Ryan Anderson all struck twice with Max Claridge and Stef Edwards completing their haul with Mike Scarfo, Jack Fox and Mark Thomas with a treble making up Buckley’s nap hand.

Out go Nercwys Phoenix who were beaten 4-1 by Marford and Gresford Albion whose goals came from Ben Rogers(2), Adam Nolan and Will Thomas.

Mynydd Isa progressed to the next round with a comfortable 6-1 win at Penycae who reduced the arrears through Wes Parry with Jason Hand showing up well.

Penyffordd were overpowered 11-1 by Borras Park Albion and hitting back for the hosts was Mike Harrison-Smith. Malcolm Mbako was the jewel in the Borras crown, this talented youngster weighed in with a hat-trick. Completing the rout were Rob Hoosan and Liam Humphreys with two goals apiece, William Hancock, Ben White, Reece Williams and Nick Schleising.

Ruthin Town are destined to do well in this competition, a double salvo from Jack Williams enabled them to topple Broughton Supersaints 2-0.

There were two outstanding League Cup games and the older Marchwiel United side managed to snuff out Bala Under 13’s 4-0 with Ian Elrick capping a fine display with a hat-trick and Andy Hughes finishing the spree.

Park Youth killed off any hopes Maelor had of progressing with a well earned 5-2 success. Ryan Brimfield converted a treble with Adam Colley and Jake Hopley making up their nap hand. Under strength Maelor reduced the deficit through Lewis Williams and Mark Mottershead.

Mold Juniors consolidated top spot in the Under 12 League Section One by clinching a narrow 4-3 win at FC Brickfield Rangers. Hot-shot Lee Jones weighed in with a double salvo and an OG an John Jones accounted for the rest with Steve Thomas(2) and Jamie Pritchard hitting back.

On a late edition to the fixture list, Marchwiel United took three points from their game with Johnstown to keep in touch with the leaders by defeating their opponents 4-3, on target were Dominic White(2), Jack Edwards and Ryan Clutton with young ‘dynamo’ Dean Wiliams firing a double salvo and Bradley Hughes replying.

Park Youth defied the form book to notch a 4-3 success at Acreafair. Tyron Hopson(2), Andy Barrett and John Paul Wesley got their goals with Josh Evans(2) and Tom May keeping the hosts in touch.

In yet another 4-3 result, it was Brickfield Rangers who prospered on this occasion, they just tipped the scales to defeat Marford and Gresford Albion 4-3 witjh strikes from Kamil Bancer(2), Luke Bowen and Dan Sherriff. Mike Flynn, an OG and Sam Rogers the Albion marksmen.

Brymbo Lodge produced another fine display to just shade things 2-1 against Rhosddu United, on target were Ryan Gould and Matt Turner with Daniel Jones giving Rhosddu hope.

Bala Juniors could not contain in form Rhos Aelwyd who won this encounter 3-2 with goals from Steff Parry, Ian Hughes and Daniel Harrison with fullback Hywel Williams voted man of the match.

Coedpoeth United were overpowered 10-0 by rampant Borras Park Rangers.

Borras Park Albion peppered Marchwiel Colts 9-0, Layton Evans was best on view notching a treble, Danny Jones and Aiden Wilson scored two goals apiece and James Purdie and Lloyd Bagnall completing their haul

James Collins, Callum Shephard and George French combined for Chirk Youth to narrowly defeat Maelor Youth 3-2 who responded through Tom Wright and Ed Robinson.

Garden Village produced a powerful display to send FC Brickfield into a spin. Goals from Luke Davies, Harry Gould, Sam Felgate, Jimmy Lee, Joe Newmes, Twando Melusi(2) and Adam Denavon with a treble with Phil Buckley, an OG, Aaron Diamond and Darren Eccleston taking the final score to 10-4 for the hosts.

There was a full Under 15 League programme and leaders Marchwiel United notched up a 6-1 win at Rhosddu but many might argue that the scoreline was slightly flattering. Josh Roberts(2), Oliver Price, Ryan Valentine, Jordan Davies and Phil Tinsley from the penalty spot got the winners goals with Jordan Hollinsworth reducing the deficit.

Garden Village just shaded things 4-3 against Bala, on target were Lewis Roberts, Joe Jarvis and Gareth Rogers with a brace of goals.

Llay United did exceptionally well to hold Borras Park Albion to a 1-1 draw. It was a game where Borras started and completed with only nine players though. Llay netted early in the first half through Alan Hume but they had to hang on to their slender lead as Borras got to grips with the formation set out by their management. With the first action of the second half, Borras got their reward, some good passing play in the midfield and excellent through ball saw Nathan Williams net a glorious and well deserved equaliser.

Alex Mills replied for Park Youth in their 4-1 reversal against Rhostyllen Youth who had Keiran Ansloos, John McGrath(2) and sub Jack Benson on the scoresheet.

Queens Park and Acrefair with the hosts coming out on top 4-1 with Nathan Buckley and Sean Skimmins weighing in with double salvo’s. Hitting back was Josh Russell.

In Section Two, Chirk Youth enhanced their chances of landing the title with a narrow 2-1 win against rivals Maelor. Matt Cooke and Craig Price fired the all important goals.

Brickfield Rangers replied through Declan Roberts(2) and Jason Ratcliffe despite being beaten 5-3 by FC Borras Park who went nap through Nicky Davies(2), Sam Parry(2) and Reece Williams.
