WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 20th January 2007

Summary by Phil Jones

Despite the inclement weather, we were able to achieve an almost full set of league fixtures last weekend. At Under 12 level in Section One, there is no change at the top with all three leading sides without a game.

Marford and Gresford Albion switched their game with opponents and bottom club Brymbo Lodge who went nap to triumph 5-2. Hitting back for Marford were Matt McCarthy and Sam Rogers.

Rhosddu fell to a heavy 6-1 reversal against Johnstown Youth who had ace predator Dean Williams in sensational form weighing in with a four goal salvo, Matt Jones and Josh Millington completed the rout with Jack Dacey grabbing the lone reply.

Turning to Section Two, Ruthin Town consolidated top spot by walloping Bala Juniors 7-0. Their marksmen were Tirion Roberts with a hat-trick, Ifan Hafal, Osian Davies, Emyr Gwyndd and Ciaran Jones.

Rhos Aelwyd put up a god fight against Borras Park Albion who took maximum points from their 3-1 success. On target were Danny Jones, Joshua Williams and James Purdie and replying was Connah Jones.

Marchwiel Colts reduced the deficit through Elliott Harlow and Liam France as they were beaten 7-2 by Chirk Youth who netted through James Colins(2), Jack Kynaston(2), Joe Rogers, Connah Morris and Jacob Williams.

FC Brickfield went down by the odd goal in eleven against Llangollen Youth who just nicked this one with strikes from Josh Scott(2), Danny Weir(2), Jak Maybury and Clive Thomas.

Borras Park Rangers kept in the title race with an emphatic 4-0 success against Garden Village and their marksmen were Tom Duckett, Zach Bryan and Zach Degale(2).

At Under 13 League level in Section One, Penycae surrendered two title points when they were held to a 4-4 draw at Llangollen who had actually led on four separate occasions through Nathan Holland and Lee Jones who notched a hat-trick. Ryan A Jones, Ryan M Jones(2) and Callum Edge kept Penycae’s championship hopes alive.

Owen Mazerella fired all three goals for Chirk Youth in their 3-0 win over Maelor Youth.

Llay United are sitting pretty in second spot after nicking a narrow 1-0 win over Cefn United, Adam Williams netted the games only goal.

Rhosddu United hit Garden Village for six, 6-3 in fact. Lewis Bailey Jones(2), Ryan Slawson, Amy Wilshaw, Tom Hallom and Jamie Harris were their marksmen with Lewis Davies, Jordon Clayton Parry and Jake Dermott on his debut hitting back.

In Section Two, Rhos Aelwyd have gone nine points clear at the top after beating title rivals Borras Park Albion 5-2. Albion respinded through Matt Kaldowski(2) but Aelwyd went nap. Taylor Jasper drilled them into an early lead, Josh Griffiths scored from distance, Rob Salathiel fired a double salvo the first of those goals being a headed goal which finished a four man move before Taylor added a 5th goal.

Man of the match Mark Lewis shone for Marford and Gresford Albion and also bagged two of his sides goals as they beat Bala Juniors. Joe Broderick netted a third and decisive goal.

Ruthin Town switched their game to Marchwiel United and enjoying the reverse trip best of all was Kristian Pearce who bagged all of his sides goals as they defeated United 4-2 who hit back through Ben Duffy and Jordan Cartwright.

Jake Peckham and Tom Williams replied for Brickfield Rangers as they were beaten 3-2 by Coedpoeth United. Man of the match Alex Turner was a colossus at the back for Coedpoeth and grabbing the headlines for his side were skipper Sion Turner and two goal Michael Pugh.

At Under 14 League level in Section One, FC Borras Park fell to a shock 1-0 home defeat against Bala Juniors who had Liam Anderson notching their winning goal.

Johnstown beat Brymbo Lodge 3-1 with strikes from Saul Dolby and Jack Griffiths with Daniel Jones reducing the deficit.

Marchwiel United found Ruthin Town too hot to handle who won this encounter 6-2 with two goals apiece for Lewis Isaac, Jack Williams and Shaun Jones and hitting back was Mike Allen and Loren Mitchell.

Penycae Youth had the man of the match in Charlie Byrnes but they could not stop Marford and Gresford Albion from taking maximum points from this encounter thanks to goals from Ben Rogers(2), Jack Cunnah and Rav Champeneria with Burns and Sam Williams hitting back.

Jon Mitchell and Jake Williamson grabbed the Chirk goals as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Garden Village who replied through Aaron Squire and Tom Birkhead.

Turning to Section Two, Borras Park Albion were able to open up an eight point gap over the rest by whitewashing Llay United 10-0. Their marksmen were Stephen Jones with a treble, Sean Price and Ryan Jones, Josh Phillips plus man of the match Michael Hencher who weighed in with a four goal salvo.

Coedpoeth United won 4-1 against Broncoed Tigers and Rhys Hughes was once more on top of his game and he added a further hat-trick to his career goals tally. Adam Jones added the 4th goal but man of the match was Ashley Jones. Mark Purdie got the visitors lone reply.

Josh Jones, Liam Sklener and Jack Akehurst and combined for Brickfield Rangers to defeat Park Youth 3-1.

Rhosddu United were peppered 13-0 at home by Llangollen.

League leaders in the Under 15 League were Marchwiel United and they were pushed all of the way by Rhos Aelwyd but in the end they managed a narrow 1-0 victory with Phil Tinsley getting the winning goal from the penalty spot. Aelwyd finished strong and had a late effort denied by the cross bar.

Borras Park Albion were defeated 3-2 by Garden Village whose marksmen were Lewis Roberts(2) and Joe Jarvis with Nathan Williams and Chad Thomas giving Borras a chance.

Coedpoeth United picked up a 3-2 success against Llay United and man of the match was Mark Burrows and he fired all three of his sides goals with Alan Hume and Mike Herald giving Llay some hope.

Marford and Gresford Albion dented Chirk Youth’s title aspirations with a narrow 1-0 verdict achieved through a long range thunderbolt in the second half from Matthew Shields.

We now know who will be contesting Under 16 League Cup semi finals as all four quarter final games went ahead uninterrupted.

Acrefair Youth ended the dreams of Ewloe Harriers who they defeated 5-2. Making up their nap hand were Sean Davies, Steve Armstrong, Adam Lovett and Josh Russell. Louis Cunliffe and Anthony Bailey responded for the Harriers.

Chirk Youth were given a tough test by Marford and Gresford Albion who they just edged out of the competition 2-1. Matt Cooke with a 3rd minute goal which was wiped out by the diminutive Nathan Peate but up popped Craig Price to net the winner for Chirk.

Out go Maelor Youth though, a brace of goals from Tom Parry saw Garden Village through.
