WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 13th January 2007

summary by Phil Jones

The key action last weekend was in the Quarter Finals of the Under 13 TESCO Cup and all our hopes for qualifying for the UK finals are Buckley Town who dashed the progress of Rhos Aelwyd quite convincingly in fact 3-1. It was a rematch of last years Under 12 final, this game started well for Buckley Town and as early as the 4th minute Buckley took the lead, Rhos were on the attack when Buckley won the ball on the edge of their own box, it was played out to the left, then switched to the right and with a great cross in there was Aled Reece to head into the top corner. Rhos responded in fine fashion but they were restricted to long-range shots, and in an even first half there were no more goals. Buckley started the second half very brightly and having the upper hand it was no surprise that they went 2-0 up, with good play the ball was played from the left to Shaun Tinsley 25 yards out, he let fly with a great shot which went in off the post. Rhos were on the defensive and they conceded a further goal on the hour mark, Nathan Whitehead crossed the ball in from the right, there was a mix up between keeper and defender enabling Ross Diamond to nip in and score. With time running out Rhos won a free kick on the edge of the box, up stepped Rob Salathiel and his shot was deflected past the stranded Buckley keeper but the goal was merely a consolation.

There was an eleven goal thriller at Marchwiel Youth who were just outshaded 6-5 by Borras Park Albion whose marksmen were Corey Smart with a treble, Dale Edwards(2) and Todd Dobie. Responding for the plucky hosts were Jordan Cartwright with a hat-trick, James Roberts and Gareth Evans.

Marford and Gresford Albion gained sweet revenge for their recent league reversal against Coedpoeth United and they in fact whitewashed their opponents 7-0. An own goal and Ryan Davies got them off the mark and then Louis Arnold(2), Mark Lewis and Dan Griffin made their semi final berth place safe.

Iolo Hughes and Josh Davies combined for Ruthin Town to edge out CPI Bala 2-0.

In the Under 12 League Cup, this was also at the quarter final stages and Ruthin Town proved too strong for Brickfield Rangers with Ifan Hafal and Keiran Jones bagging two goals apiece.

Park Youth had their progress ended and they were beaten by Borras Park Albion whose marksmen were Danny Jones, Shaun Carter and Nathan Evans.

Borras Park Rangers hit Brymbo Lodge for six, quite literally. Zac Forber converted a hat-trick, Zac Ryan notched twice with Tom Duckett cementing the win.

In the UNDER 12 Tony Collins Supplementary Cup, there was a three game Round 1 programme, Chirk Youth slammed Marchwiel Colts 10-2 and their marksmen were Joe Rogers with a hat-trick, Callum Sheppard with James Collins, Matt Knight and Scott Pemberton all grabbing two goals apiece.

Rhos Aelwyd were back to their best and they ended Coedpoeth United hopes of a good cup run. Ian Hughes bagged a treble, Sam Baldwin, Colin Jones and Dan Harrison added to their tally with right back Will Evans having an outstanding game.

Dominic White was the jewel in the Marchwiel United crown, he weighed in with a five goal salvo as his side defeated Johnstown Youth 7-3. Jack Edwards and Ryan Reid completed the spree. Dean Williams(2) and Brad Hughes responded and the scoreline did not reflect how even this game was at times.

At Under 13 level in Section One, league leaders Penycae were held to a 1-1 draw by second placed Llay United. Ryan A Jones netted the hosts goal Robbie Humphreys replied.

Goals from Dave May and Kyle Roberts gave Cefn United a 2-0 victory over Rhosddu United.

Park Youth shared eight goals and the points with Llangollen Youth. Responding for Llan who trailed 3-0 at the break were Adam Davies who got his first goal of the season, Ryan Hughes and Lewis Jones(2). On target for the hosts were hat-trick hero Jason Murphy and Liam Fisher.

Garden Village hit back through Luke Denevon in their 5-1 reversal against Chirk Youth who went nap through Kye Roberts and Owen Mazerella who bagged two goals apiece and Nick Pierce.

There was just the one Under 13 League Section Two game and Brymbo Lodge were beaten 4-1 by Brickfield Rangers who were worthy 4-1 winners with strikes from Matt Smith, Ryan Thomas and Tom Williams.

There was a full Under 14 League programme and in Section One
Malcolm Mbako(2), Liam Humphreys, Rob Hoosan, William Hancock and Rhys Williams all netted for runaway leaders FC Borras Park who beat Ruthin Town 6-2 who hit back through Robbie Cryne and Lewis Isaac.

Brymbo Lodge showed an immense improvement in form and they beat Marchwiel United 4-1. Ben Jones, Gavin Roberts, Liam Edwards and Andrew Layn netted in a powerful display..

Saul Dobie(2) and Jack Griffiths combined for Johnstown to topple Marford and Gresford Albion 3-1 and they also had the games best player in Michael Tweedie. Replying for Albion was Ben Rogers.

Garden Village shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Penycae Youth, Tom Parry cancelled out a Jason Hand opener for Penycae.

The Bala versus Chirk Youth game was off due to a waterlogged pitch.

In Section Two, Queens Park have got to within five points of the leaders Borras whose game at Broncoed was a complete washout. The Park had one of the days top scorers in Ryan Forwaerd who notched five of his sides goals. Making up the spree were Zach Bailey, Nathan Smith(2) and Josh Roberts. Llay’s lone consolation goal came from John Lewis.

Rhys Hughes struck twice and Nathan Jones hit back for Coedpoeth againstten men Park Youth who took the lead through Adam Colley.

Deadly duo Lewis Williams and Tom Cusworth plotted the down fall Rhosddu United, Williams netted a treble and his partner in strike crime bagged a double. Alex Thompson-Paynter completed the spree with Luke Harrington, Rhys Jones and Matthew Wright hitting back.

In the afternoon programme in the Under 15 League, Marchwiel United still rule the roost as a result of their 3-1 win at Park Youth and the game proved to be a great advert for Youth soccer with Park giving the leaders a real tough time of things. Jack Griffiths had opened their account but it needed a late double from Ollie Price to cement the win after Deiniol Williams had given Park hope.

Rhos Aelwyd slammed Bala Juniors 6-1 with strikes from Michael Rowlands(2), Craig Spencer(2) Rhys Roberts and an own goal.
Rhosddu United came unstuck against Borras Park Albion who won this clash with ease 9-0. Making up their haul were Ben Hughes, Shaun Jones and Nathan Williams with two goals apiece and single strikes for Josh Davies, Mike Damon and Daniel Jones.

Lewis Roberts grabbed the headlines netting a brace of goals for Garden Village as they beat Coedpoeth 6-2. Hitting back were Tom Bartley and Gavin Davies with Stuart Roberts catching the eye.

Llay United failed to contain a rampant Chirk Youth who had Josh Langford firing a hat-trick. Keiran Williams, Tom Williams and Harry Jones completed the spree.

Matt Shields helped himself to hat-trick as Marford and Gresford Albion narrowly defeated Ruabon Villa 5-4 who responded through Matt Bride, Ryan Williams and Ryan Jones(2). Completing the Albion nap hand was James Benfield and Grant Hughes.

Ruthin Town were almost turned over by Rhostyllen who led for most of the game through a Drew Wickens strike but Ian Willliams threw Ruthin a late lifeline equalising with a wind assisted cross.

At Under 16 League level in Section One, Queens Park lost their unbeaten record when an own goal separated them from Ewloe Harriers.

Borras Park Albion faltered and they were sunk 2-0 by Acrefair Youth who had Steve Armstrong netting both goals.

Park Youth were beaten 3-1 by Marford and Gresford Albion whose marksmen were Ian Jones Danny Gray and Owen Williams.

Just two games survived in Section Two, Aaron Thomas replied for
Johnstown as they were beaten 4-1 at home by Bala.

Llay United failed to deliver against Chirk Youth who head up the section by three points after clinching a 3-1 verdict. Ashley Jones, Criag Price and Matt Fleet netted for Chirk with Daniel Evison reducing the arrears.
