WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 6th January 2007

Summary by Phil Jones

The weekends top action was in the Under 14 League Cup and there were not too many surprises in store but Bala Town raised a few eyebrows by accounting for Chirk Youth 4-1. Liam Anderson and Corey Williams shared the Bala tally.

Rhos Aelwyd U13’s played their hearts out but still bowed out by the older Under 14 team from Ruthin. Rob Salathiel and Iolo Francis gave them much hope but Ruthin progressed following strikes from Lewis Isaacs(2), Wil Brown and Shaun Jones.

Coedpoeth United edged out Marford and Gresford Albion 3-1 with efforts from Rhys Hughes(2) and Danny Bennion. Hitting back was Adam Nolan from the penalty spot but Coedpoeth’s Adam Skellon was man of the match and Albions best player was Jack Cunnah.

Brymbo Lodge were floored 9-0 by Borras Park Albion who had a hat-trick hero in Tom Meyers, Michael Hencher and Mike Peters bagged a brace of goals apiece with Dominic Williams completing the romp.

Queens Park knew they had been in a game against Brickfield Rangers Under 13’s who proved no pushover despite the 9-4 scoreline. The winners scorers were rampant Ryan Forward who notched six goals, Zac Bailey(2) and Nathan Smith. Ryan Thomas, Tom Lloyd, Ashley Salisbury and Jake Peckham kept this tie alive for Brickie.

In a delayed game from the previous Round, Maelor Youth U13’s struggled against a strong Marchwiel United side who won this game in a canter 12-0. Man of the match for United was Ian Ellrick who scored a hat-trick.

There was plenty of action in the afternoon programme and at Under 15 level, Marchwiel consolidated top spot with a convincing 4-0 success against Marford and Gresford. On target were Jac Griffiths, Jordon Davies, Kristian Dickenson and Ryan Valentiine.

Despite Gwydion Ifan(2) and Morgan Dafydd giving Bala hope Park Youth powered their way to maximum points and an 8-3 victory but they had the help of two Bala own goals. Luke Roberts(2), Gareth Johnson, Aaron Blackwell, Deniol Williams and Alex Mills made the points theirs.

Borras Park Albion were second best to Rhos Aelwyd who just did enough to take the three points from the encounter with Scott Evans pegging a goal back for Albion.

Chirk Youth switched their clash with Garden Village to the hosts Colliery Ground and it really did suit them but to be fair the 4-1 scoreline flattered Chirk based on the hosts second half performance. As for the scorers Keiran Williams, Lewis Penrose, Josh Roberts and Josh Langford netted for Chirk and Sam Taylor notched the Village goal with a firmly struck freekick.

Rhostyllen Youth are hitting a rich vein of form and they defeated Llay United 5-1 with Drew Wickens, Keiran Ansloos, Matt Hughes, Tibor Bloc and John McGrath. Llay had the best player on view and that was goalkeeper Paul Martin who kept the score to single figures. Firing the Llay consolation goal was Allan Hume.

Ruabon Villa 2000 struggled to contain a rampant Ruthin Town who floored their hosts 10-0. Jack Higgins converted a hat-trick with Ben Jones and Ian Williams netted two goals apiece with Dave Evans, Mark Braid and Dyfan Jones.

In the Under 16 League in Section One, Ewloe Harriers had one of their best results of the season and they clinched a 5-0 victory at Ruthin Town and making up their nap hand were Danny Sullivan(2), Kerry Fraser, Carl Thomas, Lewis Cunliffe and a solo goal from Lewis Cunliffe who raced from his own half to score.

Marford and Gresford Albion drew their game with Borras Park Albion 1-1, Jason Gray netted the hosts goal with Chris Belton replying.

Three of the games in Section Two did not go ahead and they involved Bala against Maelor Youth, Brickfield Rangers versus Johnstown and Garden Village at home to Llay United.

Chirk Youth caught FC Borras Park on the hop and they won this clash quite convincingly 5-0 with strikes from Matt Cook who got four of them and Nathan Edwards.

Mold Juniors have hoisted themselves back into poll position of the Under 12 League Section One by clinching an emphatic 6-1 success at Brymbo Lodge. Lee Jones bagged yet another treble to enhance his personal goals tally with Callum Howarth, Jack Parry and Jack Dermott completing the romp. Matt Turner secured a lone consolation goal for The Lodge.

The shock of the day was Queens Park losing ground flopping 3-0 at Acrefair Youth whose marksmen were Tom May(2) and Josh Evans.

An under strength Brickfield Rangers drew 1-1 with Park Youth with Luke Bowen netting the hosts goal.

Johnstown Youth were sprung a surprise and went down 7-2 at home to Marford and Gresford Albion who had James Griffiths in scintillating form weighing in with a wonderful six goal salvo. Matt McCarthy completed the haul with Josh Millington and Matt Jones hitting back.

Turning to Section Two, pacesetters Ruthin Town kept up the momentum with a slim 2-1 win at Borras Park Albion that was oh so important. Ifan Hafal and Tirion Roberts bagged the goals with Josh Williams giving Borras a ray of hope.

As a result of the Albion defeat, Borras Park Rangers have leapfrogged into second spot with a riveting 11-0 whitewash at Llangollen who had four key players missing. The Rangers marksmen were Matt Thomas with a treble an also on the score-sheet were Tom Duckett, James Roberts, Curtis Neary(2), Zac Degale(2), Zac Forber and Jordan Williams.

Chirk Youth and Rhos Aelwyd were involved in a 12 goal thriller where the points and honours were shared. Ben Wilson notched four goals for the hosts and Joe Rogers and George French completed their haul with Aelwyd grabbing their contribution through Paul Williams, Danny Harrison and their best player Ian Hughes who also netted four times.

The days top marksman was Coedpoeth United’s Rhys Edwards who weighed in with a seven goal salute, Zoe Cox, Alex Hughes, Morgan Williams with a four goal haul and Ithan Huxley completed their 14-0 victory over Marchwiel Colts.
