WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 3rd February 2007

Summary by Phil Jones

The days top action was in the NEWFA Challenge Cup where the days highest scorers were Queens Park who defeated Rhos Aelwyd 8-1. Sean Skimmins netted a hat-trick, Nathan Buckley(2), Troy Roberts(2) and Levi Roberts completed the spree with Nathan Evans netting a lone consolation goal.

The much fancied Acrefair just shaded their encounter with Maelor Youth 2-0 with strikes from Jamie Pugh and Josh Foulkes.

Borras Park Albion prospered 4-0 against Park Youth courtesy of goals from Ben Hines, Michael Taylor, Chris Belton and Tyler Swarbrick-Harvey.

Out go Brickfield Rangers though, they were out-gunned 3-0 by Mynydd Isa.

Joining Brickie on the sidelines were Garden Village who lost 4-1 against Brymbo with Aled Hughes firing a consolation goal.

Hawarden Rangers needed extra time to split them from Chirk Youth but they needed extra time to clinch things 2-1. Matt Cooke hit back for Chirk.

Marford and Gresford Albion were overpowered 4-1 by Ewloe Harriers who booked a safe passage with efforts from Dan Sullivan, Darryl Peters, Karl Thomas and John Lewis.

There was a seven goal epic at Ruthin Town who narrowly defeated Buckley Town and their saviours were Dan Maclean, Liam Jones and Gethin Jones.

There was plenty of league action and at Under 12 level in section One, leaders Mold Juniors had their game with Acrefair frozen off so second placed Marchwiel United will be gutted to have dropped two points in a 2-2 draw at Park Youth and only a penalty save from Tom Jones kept them in the game. Dominic White bagged both goals with Will Poole and Tyrone Hopson notching for the hosts.

Marford and Gresford Albion were worthy 3-0 winners against FC Borras Rangers, Danny Johnson netted twice and livewire Sam Rogers completed their haul as well as firing against the upright.

In Section Two, title hopefuls Brickfield Rangers slammed Chirk Youth 15-0 and Tom Duckett became one of the days top scorers helping himself to a five goal haul, Zac Degale fired a four goal salvo with Matt Thompson converted a hat-trick with Zac Forber, Zac Ryan and James Rogers completed their spree.

Maelor Youth were walloped 10-0 by Borras Park Albion whose whitewash was orchestrated by Sean Carter who converted a hat-trick, Danny Jones and Josh Edwards notched two goals apiece with Luca Williams, Lloyd Bagnall and Josh Williams killing the game off as a spectacle.

FC Brickfield shared six goals and the points with Coedpoeth United who hit back through Alex Hughes, Rhys Edwards and Andy Williams from the penalty spot.

Ruthin Town were given their biggest scare in ages with visiting Garden Village cancelling out Ciran Jones and Tirion Roberts through Ethan Turton and Luke Davies and with 2 minutes left, Roberts bagged a last gasp winner.

Rhos Aelwyd raised their game and they were rewarded with an 11-11-2 victory over Langollen Youth. Ian Hughes was on top form and netted four goals, Connor Jones(2), Jack Jones, Stef Parry and Scott Reeves were also all on the score-sheet.

Penycae continue to rule the roost in the Under 13 League Section One and they secured a convincing 10-1 win at Cefn United. Ryan A Jones and Callum Edge converted a hat-trick apiece with Ryan A Jones, Sam Jones, Ben Barlow and Josh Austin cemented the win. Hitting back with a lone consolation goal was Kyle Roberts.

There was a high scoring 5-5 draw between Chirk Youth and Rhosddu United, John Roberts opened their account with Jordon Owen and Owen Mazerella making up their nap hand with goals apiece. Rampant Rhosddu hit back through Anthony Hope Adam Owen, Ben Allen, Dany Hodges and Jordon Brockhurst

Jason Murphy(2) and Alex Griffiths combined for Park Youth to defeat Maelor Youth who replied through Adam Williams.

Turning to Section Two, Rhos Aelwyd demonstrated their superiority once more with a 6-0 romp at Bala. Usual suspects Iolo Francis and Rob Salathiel weighed in with two goals apiece with Dean Williams and Ifan Hughes adding to their tally.

Borras Park Albion haven’t given up the ghost and defeated Brickfield Rangers 5-2. Todd Dobie(2), Dale Edwards(2) and Matt Kaldowski were on the scoresheet with Tom Williams(2) hitting back.

Iolo Hughes and Kristian Pierce found the net for Ruthin Town in their home clash with Marford and Gresford Albion who won this encounter 4-2 thanks to a Joe Broderick treble and a Mark Shaw strike.

Brymbo Lodge suffered a heavy 12-1 defeat against Marchwiel United who had Jordon Cartwright in a real rich vein of form weighing in with a five goal salvo. Ben Duffy notched a hat-trick, Adam Smith(2), Gareth Evans and Mark Matthews completed the haul.

Mike Pugh, Kady Seabrook with a shot from distance and Jack Scott with his first goal of the campaign enabled Coedpoeth United to take maximum points off Corwen Youth.

At Under 14 League level in Section One, Chirk Youth pegged back points on the leaders with a narrow 4-3 success against Marchwiel United. Kyle Jones(2), Matt Goddard and Nathan Cooke had been on target with poor young Andy Hughes notching a hat-trick yet finishing on the losing side.

Brymbo Lodge played some really attractive football and deserved at least a point from the encounter with Bala Juniors which slipped away from them after Andy Layne had them in with a shout.

Marford and Gresford Albion were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Ruthin Town who had the games best player in Robbie Cryne. Jac Williams(2) and Arwyn Edwards netted the winners goals with Albion netting their two goal response through Ben Rogers.

Penycae Youth lost their local derby with Johnstown Youth 1-0 whose goal from Tom Cuffin-Evans was worthy of winning any game.

Turning to Section Two, Borras Park Albion have opened up an eleven point lead at the top after defeating Rhosddu United 13-0.Hitting a real rich vein of form is Michael Hencher who fired a further hat-trick to his personal goals tally, Tom Wells(2), Sean Price(2), Josh Phillips, Luke Hughes, Ryan Jones, Dominic Williams, Jack Chaloner, Stephen Jones and Liam Pearce.

The Broncoed Tigers game with Maelor Youth was iced off.

There was a nine goal thriller involving Park Youth and Llay United with Park winning by the odd goal in nine. Man of the match Ryan Brimfield grabbed four of those goals with Andy Oliver completing their scoring. Llay’s response came from Dylan Jones(2), Joel Roberts and Tom Davies.

Brickfield Rangers went down 5-3 against Coedpoeth United who went nap thanks to Adam Jones(2), Danny Bennion, Gareth Owen and a Rhys Hughes penalty.

In the Under 14 League Cup, FC Borras Park defeated Llangollen Youth 5-2 and it was Llan who called the early shots and started out very strong and with the pace of Sam Evans they opened the scoring early on. Llangollen went on to rock FC Borras even more when Dean Millburn converted to take Llangollen into an early two goal lead. Borras responded with plenty of chances hitting the post and then the bar beforethey finally broke the Llangollen defence with Nick Schleising converting to end a fine move by Borras. Midfielder Rob Hooson squared things converting after weaving his way through the Llangollen defence. Borras broughton subs, Callum White and Rhys Williams in the second half and this paid rich dividends with Williams putting Borras into the lead for the first time in the game and with the constant pressure, Llangollen conceded again from Callum White and a second from Williams to provide their side with a 5-2 hard earned victory.

There was a late game pencilled on the card and it involved FC Borras U16 defying the odds to defeat Llay United 4-3, on target for the winners were Nicky Davies, Rhys Williams and Jason Weaver adding to an own goal.
