Saturday 7th April 2007

Summary by Phil Jones

There was a slimmed down Youth League programme at the weekend and the days top action was in the Under 12 Tony Collins Memorial Cup.

One of the best results belonged to Rhosddu who haven’t had the the best of league campaigns but it all came good in the cup as they claimed the scalp of Chirk Youth to book a semi final berth. Dan Jones was in awesome form and he was rewarded with a hat-trick and adding to his tally with two goals apiece were Callum Perry an Russ Jones.

Out go Marford and Gresford Albion and they had their progress halted at Clappers Lane where opponents Johnstown won quite convincingly 5-2. Making up the visitors nap hand were hot-shot Dean Williams who struck twice again, Matt Smith, Matt Jones and Abi Hughes with Sam Rogers and Luke Jones reducing the arrears.

Also through to the semi’s are Marchwiel who just shaded their tie with Maelor 3-2 with their goals coming from man of the match Jack Edwards who bagged a hat-trick.

In the Under 13 League in Section One, honours were shared in the
Park Youth versus Rhosddu United game were it ended up at four goals apiece. Jack Hughes, Alex Griffiths and Liam Fisher with a brace of goals did the trick with Nathan Hosie, Tom Hallom and a double salvo from Adam Owen securing a point for the visitors.

In Section Two Rhos Aelwyd are crowned the new champs after a nail biting 3-2 victory over Marford and Gresford Albion. They have been a class apart this season and thoroughly their success. It was all going well after Josh Griffiths netted twice which included a penalty and Harry Peters sandwiched a goal in between then Albion hot back to make a fist of things and clawed back to 3-2 with Rhos glad to hear the final whistle.

The days top scorers were in the Under 14 League Section One where Chirk Youth defeated Brymbo Lodge by a double score margin. John Mitchell converted a hat-trick with Nathan Cook, Tom Jones and Matt Goddard all netting two goals apiece with Billy Nash completing the spree.
