WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 29th November 2008

Summary by Phil Jones

In over 40 years of involvement in grass roots football I have never witnessed freezing fog have such an impact. In fact in ‘pea soup’ conditions and sub zero temperatures all 22 players on view in the Under 14 league cup between Borras Park Albion and FC Borras Park Rangers at Rhosnesni Lane ended up lookoin like polar bears. Their head perspiration had turned to ice and for a moment I thought I was at a pensioners party with so much white hair on view !!!

The weather in fact did wipe out almost one third of the scheduled games which included all five of the Under 12 Section One games and the cup clash between Penycae Youth and Borras Park Albion.

The Section Two game at Bala did kick off but with conditions worsening, the match had to be abandoned just part way through.

Adam Jones netted for Cefn United in their 1-1 draw with Llangollen Youth.

Marford and Gresford shared the fours goals and the points with Borras Park Rangers. Eddie Wright with a clever chip and Chris Whittaker bagged the hosts goals with Ross Jones scoring both of the visitors contribution.

There was just one Under 13 League Section One game and Llay United slumped to a 5-1 home defeat against Maelor Youth who went nap courtesy of a Daniel Hampson, Anthony Madden and Jason Edwards. Responding was Owen Asprey.

There was plenty of action in the Under 14 League Cup though and amongst the favourites to grace the Racecourse turf next May are Borras Park Rangers and they progressed with a comfortable 6-1 victory over Garden Village, George Ford was ‘top gun’ notching a treble with Matt Thomas, Jack Griffiths and Zac Degale completing the romp. Replying was James Gardner.

The Acrefair versus Borras Park Albion Under 14 game needed extra time and penalties to split them with Albion winning the spot-kick showdown. It ended 3-3 with Borras on target through Shaun Carter(2) and Craig Ellis with Acrefair’s reply coming from Kyle Reeves and Callum Nash.

Borras Park Albion played their little hearts out in artic conditions but conceding 12 months in age they failed to cope with the older and bigger boys from FC Borras Park Rangers Under 14's who won 10-1. Completing the rout were Keegan Jackolves with a hat-trick, Zac Butler(2), Steve Thomas(2) Harry Green(2) and James Pritchard. Firing a lone consolation goal was Ryan Pierce.

Garden Village are destined to do well and they claimed the scalp of Mold Junors who took an early lead through Mile Ellwell, Theo Pumford levelled enabling James Griffiths to bag the winner in extra time.

Marchwiel Colts were whitewashed 11-0 by Brickfield Rangers, Luke Bowen led the goal rush with five goals, Aaron Dymond weighed in with a four goals salvo with Jo Scandariato and Jordan Jenkins punishing the hosts further.

Marchwiel United Under 13's had an outstanding 6-0 victory over Coedpoeth United Under 14's, Richard Bevis and Michael Hughes both converted hat-tricks.

Marford and Gresford Under 13's raised their game and the tempo as manager Rafael Roberts had a game plan that worked to perfection and they ended up beating FC Brickfield Under 14's 10-2. The architect behind their on the field success was midfielder Ryan Foulkes who chipped in with two goals and had a hand in several other of the goals carved out by Gareth Hughes(2), Perry Shoemark(2), Mark Shaw(2), Liam Price and Owain Morris who had an excellent game in defence. Replying for Brickfield who gave their hosts an early scare was Luke Roberts(2).

Rhosddu United are enjoying a purple patch and Elliott John was in scintillating form bagging five goals as his side thrashed Corwen Youth 9-0. Completing the goal spree was Dave Bowen with a treble and Callum Perry.

The weather improved dramatically after lunch and the afternoon programme almost went ahead as normal. The days top match was at Llay United in Section One but despite protecting pole position, they were walloped 12-1 by rivals Rhos Aelwyd who now take over at the top. Making an immense contribution in the win was former Llay player Ryan Fisher who weighed in with a seven goal salvo. Cementing the win were Danny Gibbons, Lloyd Marsden, Ryan Jones(2) and Adam Peters. Adam Burgess did manage a lone consolation goal for the hosts.

Tom Lloyd and Matt Smith combined to enable Brickfield Rangers to defeat Penycae Youth 2-0.

Marford and Gresford Albion are back on the winning trail and they clinched a narrow 3-2 success against Coedpoeth United. Joe Broderick(2) and Ben Price were on target for Albion with an OG and James Price responding.

Mold Juniors were floored 14-0 by Marchwiel United who has new kid on the block Naz Fahat making an immense impression netting six goals. James Davies, Niam Asaam, Jake Barnes(2), Owen Mazerella(2), Steve Salisbury and Jason Murphy added to their tally.

Turning to Section Two, Borras Park Albion had three players weighing in with four goal salvo’s against Ewloe Harriers and they were Corey Smart, Matt Kaldowski and Dale Edwards. Adding to their tally were Taylor Rogers and Ben Tudor.

Llangollen were whitewashed 12-0 by Mold Jets and Ruthin Town stay equal top after polishing off hosts Maelor Youth 4-1. Their marksmen were Kristian Pearce, Nathan Jones, Dave Finney and Iolo Hughes.

Turning to the Under 16 League, Section One is now headed up by Garden Village whose 3-0 victory puts them 3 points clear at the top with strikes from Mathew Wright, Callum White and Sean Price.

Marford and Gresford Albion stay rooted to the league basement after being well beaten 11-4 by Maelor Youth were in peak form and scoring through Tom Cusworth who bagged five goals, Lewis Williams, Alex Thompson-Paynter, Andy Hughes and Nick Swithling. Hitting back were Ben Rogers, Ravi Champeneria, Oliver Post and Wiliam Hancock.

Tom Allen and Cai Dafydd enabled Ruthin Town to topple Llay United 2-0.

In Section Two, Rhosddu came away from their trip to Marchwiel United with maximum points in the bag and a 5-0 triumph. Making up their nap hand were Steven Elliott with a well executed free-kick, Ryan Jones(2), Jake Hanley and Luke Harrington.

The outstanding Round 2 UNDER 16 League Cup game between Bala Juniors and Rhosddu United Under 15’s was settled in favour of Bala who won 3-1. Owain Aled and Scott Evans(2) notched the winners goals.
