WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 21st March 2009

Summay by Phil Jones

There are some real class sides left in the UNDER 14 LEAGUE CUP and moving swiftly into the semi’s are Borras Park Rangers who whitewashed Rhos Aelwyd. Writing all of the headlines was Zac Degale with a treble. Completing the rout were Zac Forber, Lewis Harrington and Levi Jones.

Garden Village and Ruthin Town needed extra time and penalties to resolve their pulsating tie after it ended all square after 70 minutes and extra time, the hosts twice squandered a late carved out by ex Marford player James Griffiths and Jimmy Lea but strikes by Harris Owen and Oliver Bradley Hughes took this tie to a dramatic penalty shoot out which Ruthin eventually won 6-5.

Llangollen Youth slammed Brickfield Rangers 6-2, hitting back were Ryan Hughes and Jordon Jenkins. The Llan passage was achieved with the help of Ryan Curphy, Owen Roberts and two goals apiece from Jack Maybury and Ben Wilson.

There were just the two games on the opening round of the Under 14 Joe Jones Memorial Cup, Mold Juniors polished off Borras Park Rangers U13's 3-0 with strikes from Joel Bartley(2), and Owen Williams.

Out go Chirk U13's though, they were beaten 2-1 by Bala U14's.

In Round 2, there was a six game programme, doing best of all were Brickfield Under 13’s who defeated Brickfield Under 14 by a solitary goal eked out Jordan Davies.

Llay United took Rhostyllen U13's to extra time who then turned on the gas to win 6-2 after the game had ended at 2-2. Llay’s reply came from Callum Smith and Owen Jones.

Kyle Reeves was in sensational form weighing in with a four goal salvo as Acrefair accounted for Corwen 6-0. Completing the debacle were Connor Morris and Les Morris.

Maelor U13's hit back via Jason Edwards Rhys Williams as they were picked off by Garden Village who eased their way to an 8-2 success. Their marksmen were Zak Price, Dylan Jones, Ross White(2), Sam Molyneux, Jack Peers and Callum Dutton.

Chirk U14's led 1-0 early on but Brymbo Lodge U13's hit back in fine fashion with efforts from Richard Furmstone and Levi Clemson to go through.

Brymbo Lodge U14 were quite surprised by the class of Llangollen U13's who looked good when Will Pluves and fullback Dan Edwards had them in with a shout. Lodge had that bit extra in reserves and strikes from John Paul Weston-Lewis(2) and Ryan Williams enabled them to shade the tie.

In the afternoon programme, there was just the one league game and it involved Coedpoeth and Penycae sharing four goals and the points. Joe Birch-Harper and Jamie Price netted the hosts goals with Sam Jones securing the two goal Penycae response.

There was loads of Cup action and many would action that the days best result belonged to Marchwiel Under 15’s who knocked Ruthin Town out of the Kevin Wright Memorial Cup 4-3 after coming back from 3-1 down and with only ten men as well. Naz Fahat, Niame Aarsan, Jason Murphy and Ashley Salisbury gave them that extra edge. Putting Ruthin in the driving seat at one stage were Lewis Isaacs and Tom Allen(2).

Safely through are Venture, strikes from Ryan Forward and James Rogers provided them with a 2-0 passage over Rhosddu.

Marford and Gresford U16 defeated Llay 6-2, their marksmen were Joe Crawford with a treble, Oliver Post, Ben Rogers and Dave Browning.

Johnstown U16’s claimed the scalp of Rhosddu Under 15’s courtesy of goals from Jack Griffiths and Sol Daulby.

The Brickfield versus Park Youth clash proved to be a real epic, Jake Peckham, Tom Lloyd and Ben Allen gave Brickie hope but a response from Mike Wrench, Deekon Jones and Lewis Brindley took this game to the wire with Park winning it on a penalty shoot out.

Llangollen set the cruise control to win 4-0 at Llay.

The main league action was reserved for the Under 12 league and in Section One, what a surprise was in store for title favourites Marchwiel United who look so invincible all season and they were held to a goal-less draw by plucky Penycae to destroy their 100% unbeaten record.

Taking over at the top are FC Marford and Gresford who beat Maelor 2-0 with strikes from Harry Jones and Declan Randles.

Full credit to Brymbo Lodge, they took a point from their 1-1 draw with Llay United thanks to a James Roberts goal. Llay’s reply was a debut goal for Scott Davies.

I watched Coedpoeth United just getting pipped 5-3 by Rhosddu United. Netting in Rhosddu’s victory Ashley Roberts, Gareth Evans, Huw Jones and Jordon Stringer with a brace of goals. Coedpoeth’s reply came from Luke Hall(2) and Sam Tipping.

Garden Village slammed Whitegate 8-2, on target were Brandon Barrit Bagnall with a well contrived treble, Dylan Ward-Jones, Callum Williams, Kyle Preston and Jake Robertson(2) with Dylan Harper opening and closing the scoring for the visitors.

In Section Two, Ruthin Town were on the rampage and they clinched a 5-0 success at Llangollen. Making up their nap hand were Tomos Evans(2), Connor Lloyd, Luke Humphreys and Matthew Evans.

Marford and Gresford were worthy 2-0 winners over Bala Juniors. Despite netting through Rhys Lloyd and Elliott Byron, the games best player by a mile was their goalkeeper Aled Morgan.

In the local derby at Spider Park, Borras Park Rangers held Borras Park Albion to a 1-1 draw which will put a huge dent in Albions title plans.

Paul Messham got both of the Brickfield in their 7-2 home defeat against Cefn United.

News from the Girls soccer section is that M&G girls maintained their unbeaten start with a 3-0 victory at Bala, on target were ace predator Emily Sutcliffe, Clowie McGeorge and Rebecca Redmond.

Rachel Prandle, Poppy Davies and Lois Jones combined for Brikfield to sink Penycae 3-0.

Park and shared a goal-less draw with Buckley but they go into the next round after winning 2-1 on aggregate.
