WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 7th March 2009

Summary by Phil Jones

The days top at action was at Tanyfron Sports Centre where a huge crowd turned out to watch Garden Village secure a cup final showdown with Acrefair after defeating Penyffordd 4-2. It was a pulsating semi and the quality of football on offer was quite exceptional. Village took the lead after just 2 minutes when a defensive lapse let in Dylan Jones net with an angled drive high and to the left of the keeper. It an even first half but with the first action of the second period, two opportunist goals from the impish Sam Molyneux put Garden Village in command. There looked no way back after Zak Price created a four goal cushion but in a tense finish, their opponents netted two late goals through Ben Russell and Lee Emberton. Standing out head and shoulder for the winners was Ross White who was a colossus of a figure, he broke down attack after attack, never shirked a tackle and was creating going forward.

In the Under 14 NEWFA Cup, the clash at Ruthin Town versus Borras Park Albion had to be postponed due to an illness to the referee but booking a place in the semi’s were Borras Park Rangers who clinched a 2-0 victory at Penyffordd with George Ford bagging a goal in each half.

Adam Offless and Joel Bentley combined for Mold Juniors to sink Chirk Youth 2-0. Joining them in the hat for the next round are Garden Village who came good after trailing to an early goal against Buckley. Man of the match Ryan Thomas-Sadler levelled to take the tie into extra time and the Village won 4-1 on penalties.

Borras Park Rangers are strongly tipped to get amongst the silverware, George Ford netted a goal in each half as they ousted Penyffordd 2-0.

The main action in the afternoon was also in the NEWFA Cup and well groomed by Paul Dodd are Buckley and they were given a scare by Mold Juniors but it all came good in the end. Two goal Ryan Nash had Mold with their tales up but regular contributors Ross Diamond and Aled Reece added to a Callum Humphreys opener to turn this tie around.

Also though into the semi’s are Borras Park Albion, a goal apiece from Jack Chaloner and Niall Challoner gave them the edge at Venture.

Jack Roberts and Adam Eygenhuyser had Coedpoeth sitting pretty but Ruthin came good in the end to go through 3-2 with strikes from Arwyn Edwards, Jordon Oldbury and Tom Allen.

In the other quarter final, Hawarden Rangers pulled off a 3-0 victory at Maelor Youth courtesy of efforts from Jack Gregory(2) and Joel Thomas

The curtain came down in Section One of Marford and Gresford Albion who put up a plucky fight prior to surrendering 5-4 athome to Acrefair Youth who just tipped the balance with efforts from Jordan Powell, man o fthe match Dan Roberts(2) and Taylor Claytin.

Rhos Aelwyd slammed ten men Rhosddu United 6-4. Netting for the winners were Wil McKnight, Geraint Andrews, Jake Allen, Dafydd Williams, Ieuan Davies and Dewi Griffiths. Making a real fist of things for the visitors though was Jack Lawrenson who convereted a hat-trick to add to an earlier own goal.

Due to so much Cup action, there were just the three Under 14 League games in Section One, FC Borras Park Rangers shared six goals and the points with Brymbo Lodge, netting for Rangers were Zac Butler, Jason Slater and Dan Massey.

Brickfield Rangers came out tops and spanked Llangollen Youth 5-1. Making up their nap hand were Luke Bowen and four goal Jordan Jenkins but standing out was Scott Watkins.

Ryan Reid hit back for Marchwiel United but went down 3-1 against Rhos Aelwyd who prospered with efforts from Alex Williams(2) and Josh Evans.

The Under 15 League Section One programme was disrupted by cup action and Rhos Aelwyd have strengthened their grip at the top with a 5-0 whitewash at the Gravel Pit against Marford and Gresford.

Llay United slammed Mold Hawks 9-1 to go second, Luke Bagnall converted a hat-trick, Adam Burgess and Rob Humphreys netted two goals apiece and completing the rout were Ryan Edwards and Callum Jones.

Ruthin Town chalked up a 7-0 victory over Maelor Youth, their marksmen were Dave Finney and grabbing two goals apiece were Matt Richards, Kristian Pierce and Mike Jones.

In the Under 16 League in Section One, their was a real epic between Chirk Youth and Garden Village and the title race is in the balance once more after leaders Chirk were beaten for the first time this season. Only the one Section Two game survived, and it enabled Bala Juniors to defeat Johnstown 3-1, Alan Parry, Barry Jones and Dyfryg Jones got their goals with Jack Griffiths replying in a gritty performance from the visitors.

There was Kevin Wright Memorial Cup action and Brymbo Lodge took an exit at home to Marchwiel United . It was a high scoring match with a significant age gap and one of those which makes you wonder whether a competition with a two year age gap window is healthy so United won this game quite convincingly 17-0.

Brickfield Under 15’s beat Park Under 16’s 2-1 with strikes from Tom Williams and Ben Allen who notched a last minute winner.
