WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 24th January 2009

Summary by Phil Jones

The weekends top action was in the Under 14 NEWFA Challenge Cup but three of the ties fell victim to the weather. There was a pulsating game at Park Avenue where Borras Park Rangers met Ewloe Harries and this really was a football feast and the quality of football witnessed was of the highest calibre. The highlight of the opening half was a text book penalty save by Lewis Gray. Both sides had their chances to win this tie which went into extra time with Zac Degale breaking the deadlock for Rangers and it proved decisive.

Chirk Youth demolished Rhostyllen Youth 5-0 and making up their nap hand were Jordon Armstrong, Callum Sheppard, Ryan Kynnaston as two goals for Will Humphreys.

John Jones, Adam Offless and Joel Bartley combined for Mold Juniors to sink Rhosddu United 3-0.

The Park Youth versus Garden Village tie was a closely contested affair, Village led 2-0 through Tom Duckett who bagged both goals but Tyrone Hopson was in lethal form for the hosts and he clawed things back to 2-2 but with extra time looming, Duckett sealed the tie to complete his hat-trick but the goal was hotly disputed by the hosts. There was no disputing who man of the match was in this clash and it was Village keeper Peter Cowlishaw.

A single strike from Lee Pryddech secured Penyffordd a place in the next round as they defeated Marchwiel United 1-0.

It was ‘Cup’ time at Under 12 level as well and making a huge impression in the League Cup quarter finals were Borras Park Albion who slammed Llay United 5-1. Achieing the headlines were Connor Arrowsmith(2), Jimmy Roberts(2) and James Nicholls .

Garden Village were ‘come-back’ kings, they trailed to Connor Jones in their home game with Maelor Youth but the games best player Brandon Barritt-Bagnall turned this game on its head and his hat-trick enabled the hosts to book a semi-final passage.

Ruthin Town ended Cefn United’s dreams and they booked a comfortable passage with assistance from Tomos Jones, Tomos Evans and Thomas Whelan, an OG and Luke Humphreys.

Turning to the Under 12 League Supplementary Cup, the Brickfield game against Marford and Gresford was put on hold due to a frozen pitch but through to the next round are Brymbo Lodge who went out 4-2 at home against Llangollen and the Lodge marksmen were Josh Scott and Lou Crompton.
