WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 21st February 2009

Summary by Phil Jones

There was plenty of key action at the weekend and the first side to book their place in the North East Wales TESCO Cup final were Acrefair and they convincingly defeated Maelor. They had four particular hot shots who netted 15 goals between them. Jordan Powell bagged five goals, Taylor Clayton weighed in with a four goal salvo, Joe and Dan Roberts both converted hat-tricks and completing the whitewash were Joe Francis, Connor Rogers and Aled Bartley.

Three outstanding Under 12 NEWFA Cup games also got decided, it took extra time to split Borras Park Rangers and Penycae who were sharing four goals after 70 minutes were up. Jack David Roberts and Jack Williams with a clever chip from a Ross Bignall cross had the hosts in charge but Albert Mynit and Callum Smith looked as if things could be tipped in Penycae’s favour but in extra time Ross Jones got the winner for Rangers with an exquisite curling shot which was worthy of resolving any cup tie.

Marchwiel United made light work of accounting for Buckley, Josh Taylor, Jack Jones and Ellis Gerrard got early goals and they never looked back.

Out go Garden Village though, they were sunk 5-1 in their own back yard by Ruthin Town who went nap through Adam Davies, Connor Llyd, Tomos Evans, Luke Humphreys and Elis Ifans. Replying was Brandon Barritt Bagnall but rest assured, this scoreline flattered the visitors.

There was a full set of Under 16 games in the NEWFA Cup and goals galore and it was at its Round 2 stage and making a firm impression were Buckley who picked up a 3-1 win at Bala Juniors.

Hawarden Rangers polished off Marchwiel United 5-0 and making up their nap hand were Darren Gillingham, Jack Gregory and Rob Collinson with a treble.

On of the days highest scorers were Mold Juniors who sank Penycae Youth 19-0.

Venture booked a safe passage and they sent Rhosddu Utd crashing 5-2. Ryan Forward and Kyle Jones netted two goals apiece and completing their nap hand was Adam Skellhorn. Reducing the deficit were Dale Williams and Ryan Jones.

To complete the cup action, we were able to resolve the outstanding Tony Collins Round 2 Cup action and Llangollen moved swiftly into Round 3 with strikes from Jordon Hughes, Anar Azad, Tom Edwards and Tom Mayers.

In the league at Under 12 level in League Section One, Marford and Gresford Albion cruised to a 7-2 verdict at Whitegate . Declan Randles claimed yet another treble, goal machine Jack Lea weighed in with a double salvo and Jake Smith also bagged a brace of goals with Ryan Rees and Dylan Harper hitting back.

There was just the one game in Section Two also and Jimmy Roberts and Alex Jones combined for Borras Park Albion to defeat Bala Juniors 2-1.

We only lost one game with weather problems in the Under 13 League Section One and the Llay versus Brymbo Lodge game got canned.

Chirk Youth were involved with a high scoring game with Brickfield Rangers who just shaded this clash 8-6, man of the matched Dan Woodfince converted a hat-trick and adding to the Brickie tally were Jordan Davies(2), Cameron Woolnough and Nathan Kearsley.

In the match of the day at this level, Borras Park Rangers came out on top to beat Garden Village in their own back yard 3-1 and the win keeps them in the title hunt. The Rangers marksmen were Lewis Edwards, Ryan Kershaw and Gary Ray with Jack Peers responding.

Marchwiel United packed in yet another excellent performance to whitewash plucky Borras Park Albion 8-0. Nick Hughes was their ‘top-gun’. Netting four times including a penalty and completing the spree were Adam Hughes, Richard Bevis, Simon Lewis and Alistair Belk.

Turning to Section Two, there was a thrilling display performed by Llangollen who could only muster 9 men but still managed to beat in form Rhostyllen Youth 7-1. It was goal-less at the turn-around but rather than tire they upped the temp and netted through Ryan Walker, James Fell, Jack Jeffers and Danny Edwards. Firing a lone consolation goal was Keiran Taylor.

Johnstown Youth walloped Marford and Gresford Albion 6-2 who had their splendid 6 game unbeaten run eventually ended. Adam Hughes was on top of his game and his individual performance was rewarded with a hat-trick. Josh Evans(2) and Ryan Hanmer completed the spree with Perry Shoemark getting the Albion two goal reply.

In the Under 14 League in Section One, Ruthin Town seem to be running away with things, best exampled by their 9-1 romp at Borras Park Albion. Ciran Jones converted a hat-trick and completing the debacle were Harri Owen(2), Stephen Willsdon, Oliver Bradley-Hughes, Emyr Gwynydd and Osian Davies with Shaun Carter reducing the deficit.

FC Borras Park Rangers battered Corwen Youth 8-0, Jason Slater got the ball rolling with a well contrived hat-trick, Zak Butlet(2), Dan Jones, Keegan Jakolevss and Harri Gould completed the rout.

Johnstown Youth were held to a 1-1 draw by Park Youth who had Tyrone Hopson cancelling out a Dean Williams goal.

In Section Two, Mold Juniors slammed hosts Chirk 8-0, weighing in with two goals apiece were John Jones, Oliver Lewis and Joel Bentley with Keiran Irvine and Adam Offless cementing the win.

The Brickfield Rangers versus Borras Park Rangers game was quite bizarre, Borras only started with 7 men, but with them protecting a 4-2 lead, Brickfield had two players dismissed and then 3 more injured so the game had to be abandoned.

Garden Village are going great guns, they beat Marchwiel United 3-0 with scond hald strikes from the impressive Tom Duckett(2) and Luke Jones.

In the afternoon programme in the Under 15 League in Section One, Coedpoeth were on the wrong end of a 7-1 drubbing against Brickfield Rangers who were on target through Ryan Thomas(2), Tom Lloyd, Matt Smith, Richard Kelly and Ben Allen(2). Sion Turner hit back.

In Section Two, Mold Jets continue to ‘fly-high’ and continue to set a blistering pace, they whacked Ewloe Harriers 11-0. Their top marksman was George Baxter with four goals, Josh Davies netted a hat-trick with Ryan Williams, Lewis Baxter and Jack Roberts sealing the win.

Chirk Youth had two hat-trick heroes in Kai Roberts and Nick Pearce with Richard Palmer turning over Llangollen 7-1. Dyfan Hughes did hit back for the visitors.

Maelor Youth pushed Rhosddu United close, Efan Williams and James Rogers thought their contribution had earned their side a point but a treble from Tom Hallom swung the game in Rhosddu’s favour.

Park Youth are to be praised for taking maximum points off Ruthin Town, they shaded a seven goal thriller by the odd goal. Park’s marksmen were Kyle Roberts(2), Tom Griffiths and Deacon Jones with Matt Richards, Mike Jones and Brandon Keating running Ruthin close.

In the Under 16 League in Section One, Chirk Youth were at their brilliant best when beating Coedpoeth United out of sight 7-0, competing the debacle were Carl Williams, Justin Webb, Kristian Jones, Kyle Jones(2) and Ryan Lightwood(2).

Llay United were worthy 2-1 winners over Ruthin Town, Joel Roberts bagged both of the Llay goals with Jordon Oldbury putting Ruthin in with a shout.

Completing the days play, in Section Two, Johnstown Youth flopped to a 5-2 reversal against Llangollen but did manage to twice breach the Llan defence through Saul Dobie(2).
