WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 20th October 2007

Summary by Phil Jones

The days top action was in the Tesco Cup and in total, seven games were contested. There was a real epic at The Adwy where Coedpoeth were just pipped 4-3 by Chirk Youth. Rhys Edwards, Alex Hughes and Jason Jones had netted for the hosts and with the game evenly poised with Ben Wilson converting a hat-trick in response, the same player then scored a late penalty to settle the tie.

Out go Acrefair Youth who were beaten 3-1 by Rhos Aelwyd whose marksmen were Ian Hughes Stef Parry and Morgan Williams.

Ewloe Harriers edged out Brymbo Lodge 3-1 who hit back through Ryan Gold.

After a slow and tentative start, the goals flowed for Garden Village as they ended Mynydd Isa’s progress in the competition. Centre half Luke Jones stood out like a beacon in the heart of Village defence and at the opposite there was some fine finishing in evidence from Luke Davies who opened and closed the scoring, Jim Lee and Harri Gould who also weighed in with a double salvo.

Marchwiel Youth proved too strong for Brickfield Rangers, Chris Platt, Mike Roberts(2), Jake Pollard and Liam France led them to victory with Dan Sheriff reducing the margin.

Mold Hawks sent Bala crashing out 7-2 and on target were Ollie Hughes with a treble, Aiden Evans(2), Rob Raynor and Ewan Raynor.

The Penyffordd versus Rhosddu United game was a close affair with Callum Keay just shading it in the hosts favour.

At Under 12 level in Section One, we had the Acrefair Youth powered on the gas to slam FC Garden Village 11-0. Jordan Powell was in sensational form bagging five of those goals. Connor Rogers weighed in with a treble and completing the debacle were Joe Francis, Aled Bartley and Adam Hughes and the win enables them to go clear at the top.

The Marchwiel United against Brymbo Lodge ended goal-less but forget the score-line this was a thoroughly entertaining and free flowing game.

Marford and Gresford Albion have been whipped into shape by manager Nathan Roberts and his team responded with an 8-3 success against Llangollen. His marksmen were Gareth Hughes with a hat-trick, Jamie Lloyd, man of the match Ryan Foulkes, Ioan Parry Jones and Connor Scott. Hitting back were Will Pluves(2) and Huw Williams.

Cefn United were on the wrong end of a 10-1 hiding against Whitegate Wanderers who chalked up their first win of the season. Ace predator Jordan Davies notched four og those goals with Zac Trow(2), Bradley Sambrooke(2), Shane Jones, Matt Dodd and Jay Davies(2)

Turning to Section Two, title challengers Borras Park Rangers were in rampant mood walloping Johnstown 10-0. Lewis Edwards was top gun with a treble. Ryan Kershaw, Jack Davies, Nathan Gregory, Scott Jones, Aaron Rafferty and Jack Edwards were also amongst the remaining scorers.

Borras Park Albion are finding points hard to come by and they slipped up 3-1 at home to Coedpoeth who were on target through Ryan Russell(2) and Joe Williams.

Garden Village maintained their unbeaten start with a narrow 2-1 win over Ruthin Town but they needed a little bit of lady luck. Ruthin led through Rob Dodd but Zach Price and Sam Molyneux responded and keeper James Garder saved a late Ruthin penalty.

Llay United flopped to a 6-0 reversal against Rhos Aelwyd who took all three points courtesy of efforts from Carwyn Davies with a treble, Geraint Andrews, Dafydd Williams and Dewi Griffiths.

Maelor Youth defeated Rhosddu United by the odd goal in seven, Anthony Maddon, Dan Hampson, Rhys Williams and Nyle Narbinki with plucky Rhosddu replying through Tom Povey, Adam Shone and Connor Pugh.

At Under 14 level in Section One, Ruthin stay out in front after securing a comfortable 8-3 victory over Penycae. They took a 7-0 interval lead in fact with Penycae finishing the stronger side. For the record then, Josh Davies(2), Dave Hurst, Dan Lloyd, Phyl Roberts, Iolo Hughes and an OG accounted for the Ruthin tally with Sam Jones and Callum Edge replying.

Bala were sunk 6-2 in their own back yard by Marchwiel United who were on target through a Mark Mathews penalty, an OG and a four goal salvo for ‘hot property’ Jordan Cartwright.

Borras Park Albion whitewashed Brymbo Lodge 11-0 and doing the damage were Matt Kalewski with four goals, Corey Smart(2), Josh Underwood(2), Taylor Rogers, Todd Dobie and Josh Whitehead.

Corwen Youth were beaten 3-2 by Garden Village whose marksmen were Lewis Davis(2) and Joe Harper.

Maelor Youth had no answer to the goal scoring prowess of Rhosddu’s Luke Griffiths and Amy Wilsher. Luke bagged five goals and Amy secured a hat-trick.

In Section Two, Rhos Aelwyd go marching on and they again dished up a fine display of football to record a 5-1 victory over Brickfield Rangers, making up their nap hand were Iolo Francis, Rob Salathiel, Ryan Jones(2) and Lloyd Marsden.

Marford and Gresford Albion are also building up a head of steam, they defeated Coedpoeth United 6-1. Joe Broderick(2), Callum Parry with a treble and Tom Hughes grabbed the winners goals with Ryan Hannaby hitting back.

Llay United were also in fine form sentencing Chirk Youth to an 8-1 defeat. Ryan Fisher got five goals, Liam Fisher, Matt Worrall and Adam Burgess completed the rout.

There were plenty of goals at Mold Juniors as well as they whitewashed Llangollen 8-0 with efforts from Connor Leckinsby, Liam Roberts, Ben Hughes and a four goal haul for Ryan Williams.

The afternoon programme was totally dedicated to League Cup action and as so often happens when 15 year old youngsters face up against those a year older, there were some high scoring results. However, defying that myth were plucky Venture who secured the best result of the day to beat Coedpoeth Undet 16’s 3-1. Writing their headlines were Josh Roberts, Zac Bailey and Nathan Smith with Owen Turner reducing the margin from the penalty spot.

Borras Park Albion defeated Broncoed Tigers 10-2 with the help of four goals from Mal Mbako, a Jack Challoner hat-trick, Steve Jones, Tom Wells and a 40 yard special from Liam Pierce.

The under 16 side at Borras also had a comfortable passage, they beat Chirk Youth 6-0 with help from Nathan Williams and a five goal haul from Danny Jones.

Coedpoeth U15’s gave Marford and Gresford Albion a scare and they held yhem up for most of this match. Eventually making their presence felt were Robbie Morris and two fine headed goals from Danny Lloyd with Dan Bennion levelling at one point.

Garden Village Under 15’s were defeated by a very strong Ruthin Town side 8-0. On target were Jack Higgins(2), Alex Gill(2), Ian Williams, Ben Jones, Richard Parry and Gwydion Ifan.

Johnstown Youth failed to live with rampant Rhos Aelwyd who booked a safe passage with a 13-0 victory. Leading the rampage with seven goals was Dwayne Jones.. Mike Rowlands, Gareth Jones, Josh Roberts, Ian Hancock and Nathan Evans punished the hosts further.

Llay United went down 2-1 against Maelor Youth who netted a goal in each half through Tom Cusworth.

Marchwiel United triumphed 9-3 against Bala Juniors, Kris Dickenson bagged a four goal salvo, Jack Griffiths(2), Mike Murphy, Dave Ward, an OG and Phil Tinsley took them safely through.

Park Youth and Brickfield Rangers needed extra time to sort their tie out and it was Park who eventually went through 5-4. Jake Hopley(2), Andy Lane, Ryan Brimfield and Jack Roberts completed the Park nap hand with Liam Sklenar and Josh Jones sharing Brickfield’s response.

Rhosddu United are safely through to the next round accounting for Marchwiel United 7-0. Lucas Godfrey has settled in well best exampled by his five goal return. Matt White and Matt Tong added to their tally.

Making the headlines at Rhostyllen are Keiran Ansloos and Mark Burrows they weighed in with a four and two goal haul respectively. Jack Kelsall also notched a brace of goals with Gareth Lloyd completing the scoring against luckless Llay United.

Ruthin Town had their dreams shattered by Jason Taylor’s Garden Village side 6-3. Netting the Village goals were Joe Jarvis(2),Lewis Roberts(2), Gareth Rogers and a fine long range effort from Jimmy Jones. Reducing the deficit for Ruthin were Lewis Isaac(2) and Wil Bowman.

There were several entertaining games on Sunday involving the girls soccer. Amongst the goals were Llay who secured an 8-1 win at Chirk B. Lucy Brumskill netted a four goal salvo, Emma Dewit and Nina Elson had two goals apiece to complete the win. Hitting back was Alana Francis.
