WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 10th November 2007

Summary by Phil Jones

The weekends top action was in the NEWFA Under 13 Tesco Cup Round 2 and one of the best results of the day was by Llangollen who only had one win to their credit at the start of play so they need to be congratulated for their 2-1 win at Borras Park Albion although they needed extra time to win the tie with strikes from Joe Morris and Ryan Curphey. Josh Williams had given Albion a ray of hope.

Chirk Youth booked a safe passage with an emphatic 10-4 victory over Marchwiel United who were able to reduce the arrears through Ed Robinson, Mike Roberts(2) and Jake Pollard.

Matt Smith hit back for Johnstown as they slipped up 4-1 against Ewloe Harriers.

Marford and Gresford Albion raised their game to scalp Buckley Town Juniors 4-2 with goals from Mike Flynn(2), James Griffiths and Jon Collo.

Mold Juniors slipped up 4-2 in their local derby with Penyffordd who netted through Callum Kay(2), Josh Williams and Arthur Doo to book a safe passage with Gwyn Smith and Rob Raynor.

Ruthin Town edged out Park Youth 3-2, hitting back was Keiran Jones who grabbed both goals but just shading things for the hosts were Hari Owen and Ifan Hafal(2).

In the Under 12 League in Section One, Brymbo Lodge with an eye on top spot trailed at the break at Garden Village but all self corrected and leading their inspired fight-back was Matt Jones who had the pace of a panther and he netted five times as Lodge also added further goals through Lee Evans(2) and Lee Clayton.

League leaders Acrefair made it eight straight wins with a quality performance which saw Chirk Youth reeling 7-2. Replying for the hosts were Brad Davenport and Jack Weir.

Marford and Gresford Albion are coming good all of a sudden and they slammed Cefn United 12-1. Leading their goal glut with a six goal haul was Gareth Hughes. In the Under 14 League in Section One, amongst the favourites to lift the title though are Ruthin Town who proved too hot to handle by hosts Garden Village who fired a lone consolation goal through Liam Williams. Turning to Section Two, Mold Juniors won their match of the day encounter against Rhos Aelwyd which had been dubbed a ‘six-pointer’, 3-1 all after Josh Griffiths has provided Aelwyd with an early lead. Rhys Williams(2) and John Reid enabled Mold to keep in tact their unbeaten record.
