WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 10th May 2008

Summary by Phil Jones

In the final Saturday of the season there was still plenty of football being played and top match was in the Under 16 league where Rhostyllen seem to have blown their chances of winning the title. After being so dominant all season, they went down gracefully 3-2 at Marchwiel United who were on target through Ryan Williams(2) and Ricky Smith so a response from John McGrath and Jake Kelsall was insufficient to turn this game around.

There was quite a feisty affair at The Gravel Pit where Rhos Aelwyd secured third spot in the league with a narrow 2-1 win over Marford and Gresford Albion. Josh Hughes broke the deadlock late on with a spectacular bicycle kick from the edge of the box and Jason Williams doubled their lead with an angled drive. Albion hit back late on through Grant Hughes.

Turning to the Under 14 League Section One, title favourites Ruthin Town notched up a 9-0 haul at Bala Juniors courtesy of efforts from Mike Jones and Brandon Keating who fired a hat-trick apiece, Jon Childes, Josh Davies and Iolo Hughes completed the debacle.

Garden Village were sunk 3-2 by Corwen Youth whose marksmen were Tomos Jones(2) and Jason Williams with Owen McGrath and Jake McDermott hitting back.

Bala Juniors defeated Borras Park Albion 3-1 who replied through Sean Carter.

In Section Two, Brickfield Rangers were peppered 10-2 by Mold Juniors but reducing the deficit for the hosts was Tom Williams with a double salvo.

Rhos Aelwyd were able to cement the runners up spot with a 3-2 victory over Marford and Gresford Albion who pushed the self destruct button once more. Daniel Gibbons with a bullet header and opportunist strikes for Iolo Francis and Ryan Jones gave Aelwyd with edge. Man of the match Callum Parry and Joe Broderick kept Albion in the hunt to the death.

Ryan Jones responded for Penycae in their 4-1 reversal at home to Corwen.

In the Under 13 League Section One, Rhosddu finished their campaign in fine fashion and Dave Bowen once more stood out like a beacon netting four times and completing their nap jand in their 5-3 success was a rejuvenated Sam Rogers who his hit new hights following his move from Marford. Hitting back for the hosts were Jack Price, Zac Jones and Jack Maybury.

Brickfield Rangers white washed Chirk Youth 11-0, Luke Bowen weighed in with a four goal salvo and the versatile Kamil Bancer converted a hat-trick with Dan Sherrif, John Alexander, Jordan Jenkins and Scott Williams completed the spree.

Rhos Aelwyd defeated Coedpoeth United 3-1 who replied through Nkonde Lindisha.

FC Borras Park Rangers were second best in their conquest against Johnstown Youth who won this clash quite comfortably 7-1. Matt Jones bagged for goals, the diminutive Dean Williams struck twice with Alex Williams completing the spree.

There was plenty of action midweek and in the NEWFA Cup Under 12 Final, Borras Park Rangers narrowly defeated Hawarden Rangers 2-1 with Jack Davies weighing in with a double salvo for the winners and Jack Eyre responding.

A solitary strike from David Finnie resolved the NEWFA Cup Under 14 Final and Ruthin Town defeated Mold. Both teams lead their respective divisions within the RAM Youth League and it was always going to be a competitive affair. Ruthin had already beaten their opposition earlier in the league cup. A nervous start to the game did not produce the expected quality both teams are capable of. It was Ruthin who scored first after 20 minutes following fine individual skills from forward David Finnie. Cutting through the defence, Finnie intercepted a back pass to the keeper and walked the ball into the net Ruthin should have made the game safe in the first half. Iolo Hughes deserved at least one goal as reward for his non-stop running upfront. The second half was equally as tense. Mold had an effort cleared off the line by Joe Vaughan Evans, who had an excellent game with fellow central defender Mike Jones. Mold started to pressurise to gain the equaliser but Ruthin held firm led by their in form captain Josh Davies. Goal keeper, Lee Mazurek, was equal to any shot or cross hit at him and inspired confidence in his back four throughout the game. Although, glad to hear the final whistle, Ruthin probably deserved the win but were not at their best on the night. They look forward now to the 18th of May were they play their next final at Wrexham’s Racecourse ground against old rivals Rhos Aelwyd.

The Under 16 final was also a tense encounter and Ruthin Town beat Borras Park Albion 3-1with efforts from Gwydion Ifan, Jack Williams and an OG.

In the UNDER 13 DIVISION, FC Borras Park Rangers and Brickfield Rangers shared six goals and the points, Danny Jones(2) and Jamie Pritchard netted the hosts goals with Kamil Bancer, Scoot Watkin and an oG ensuring a point went ‘Brickies way.

Bala Juniors were whitewashed 6-0 by Ruthin Town who had the games best player in Oliver Hughes who converted a hat-trick. Iafan Hafal, Tirion Roberts and Harris Ellis completed the rout.

In the UNDER 14 DIVISION, Brymbo Lodge were held to a 2-2 draw by Garden Village who hit back through Ian McGrath and Callum Jones.

Rhos Aelwyd were worthy 4-1 winners over Chirk Youth and their marksmen were Ryan Jones, Lloyd Mardsen, Daniel Gibbons and Joe France.

At UNDER 15 DIVISION level, Brickfield Rangers fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Marford and Gresford Albion. Netting for the hosts was Liam Sklenar and on target for Marford was Adam Morgan and Jack Cunnah.

Llangollen fell to a heavy 5-0 defeat at home to Mold Juniors.

In the UNDER 16 DIVISION Coedpoeth United were beaten 3-1 by Rhos Aelwyd and Chirk hammered Marford and Gresford Albion 5-1. Making up their nap hand were Harri Jones, Simon Williams(2), Josh Roberts and Josh R Roberts.

In girls football Brickflield U13’s defeated Garden Village 2-0 with efforts from Lynsdey Williams and Heather Davies.

In the Under 11 league cup, Brickfield prospered 5-0 with Rachel Prandle scoring a hat-trick and Lowis Jones and Taylor Davies making up their nap hand.
