WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 3rd May 2008

Summary by Phil Jones

The key action at Under 14 level was in the Joe Jones Memorial Cup and there were goals galore with Llay United peppering hosts Acrefair 18-0. Ryan Fisher just can’t stop scoring at present and what a memorable match this was for him capturing a seven goal salvo. Completing the rout were Robbe Humphreys with four goals, Luke Bagnall(2),Adam Burgess, Sam Price,John Jones and Liam Fisher.

Brymbo Lodge hit back through John Paul Weston-Lewis, as Rhosddu progressed 4-2 with strikes from Tom Hallam(2), Keiran Wynne and Ashley Jones who scored his first ever goal for the club.

Out go Garden Village, they found it hard to compete due to the fact due to holiday commitments they could only field nine players. They battled really hard but Corwen Youth ran out worthy 3-1 winners with efforts from Gareth Lea and Tomos Williams(2) after Jake McDermott had given the hosts hope.

Mold Juniors made Penycae Youth sweat for their 6-4 success carved out by Ben Barlow, Yousseff Memmaou, Ryan Jones and a Sam Jones treble. Hitting back for plucky Mold were Lee Jones(2), John Jones and Adam Offless.

In the Under 13 League Section One, FC Borras Park Rangers floored Llangollen Youth 12-1. Their goals come from all areas of play and on the scoresheet on this occasion were Danny Jones and James Pritchard who netted a hat-trick apiece. Completing the debacle were Josh Griffiths(2), Zav Butler(2), Casey Roberts and Sam Butler.

In Section Two, Garden Village ended their campaign with an odd goal in seven win over Borras Park Albion. The jewel in the Village crown was Jordan Williams bagged a brace of goals in between efforts from Tom Duckett and Luke Davies. Hittung back for Albion were Lloyd Bagnall, Sean Carter and Josh Williams.

Park Youth had Tyron Hobson notching a hat-trick of hat-tricks and he really is finishing his season off in style as his side thrashed Bala Juniors 6-3. Hayden Jones, Joe Darlington and Ian Jones cemented the win.

There was just the one Under 14 League game and in Section Two, Marford and Gresford Albion slumped to a 3-0 home defeat against Mold Juniors.

There was scant action in the Under 15 League and in Section One, Bala were worthy 5-0 winners over Marchwiel United.

Marford and Gresford Albion let Llangollen off the hook and a poor finish saw Llan punish them with efforts from Stef Edwards, Nick Linyard and Rhys Williams(2). Albion’s reply came from Adam Nolan(2) and Rav Champenari.

There was a full Under 16 League programme and Rhostyllen are in the driving seat for becoming champions after clinching a 3-1 win at Borras Park Albion with efforts from Mark Burrows, Josh Griffiths and John McGrath with Chad Thomas reducing the deficit.

Park Youth just about shaded their clash with Chirk Youth 5-4. Making up their nap hand were Tom Dobens, Aaron Davies, Luke Roberts(2) and Liam Richardson with Danny Jones and Louis Penrhose with a hat-trick having Chirk in with a shout.

Marford and Gresford Albion failed to tame rampant Ruthin Town who remain in the title hunt with a 4-1 success thanks to Ian Williams(2), Dion Jones and Alex Gill with Dave Lloyd hitting back.

Marchwiel United clinched narrow 2-1 win over Garden Village with goals from Mike Murphy and a late winner from Jack Griffiiths.

There was plenty of action in midweek and the semi finals of the Under 14 League Cup competition were resolved and we now know that we will have Ruthin Town facing Rhos Aelwyd in the final. Ruthin floored Borras Park Albion quite convincingly, 5-0 in fact and making up their nap hand were Iolo Hughes(2), Phyl Roberts, Dan Lloyd and Les Brophy.

In the other semi, Aelwyd accounted for Marford and Gresford Albion 3-1. A headed goal from Danny Gibbons following a well flighted free-kick opened Rhos’s account and he then doubled his sides tally after a defensive error. Ryan Jones opened up a three goal cushion before Albion netted a lone consolation goal.

There was also cup action in the Under 16 Kevin Wright Memorial Cup and making their age count were Park Youth who powered their way past Ruthin Town Under 15’s 6-1. There were six single scorers in Luke Roberts, Liam Nicholson, Deiniol Williams, Sean Davies, Callum Palmer and Aled Evans. Reducing the deficit was Jordan Reid.

Brickfield are also through to the final after beating Coedpoeth 3-2. Liam Sklenar is having a splendid season and it was his double salvo which tipped the balance in Brickies favour but they have Louis Jones to thank for bagging a last gasp winner in extra time.

In the Under 13 League, Borras Park Rangers celebrated winning the title and in fine style with their now famous ‘ZAC ATTACK’ strike force. They walloped Bala Juniors 13-2, ace predator Zac Degale weighed in with a seven goal salvo, Zac Bryan notched a brace of goals and Zac Forber added to a George Ford hat-trick.

Llangollen Youth shared six goals and the points in a 3-3 draw with Coedpoeth United, Jack Maybury, Patrick Davies and Joe Morris netted the hosts goals with Alex Hughes(2) and Elliott John replying.

Marchwiel Colts were on the wrong end of an 8-2 defeat but never for one moment gave up and responded through Josh Felgroome and Josh Bather before Chirk Youth took over and were on target through Ryan Kynnaston who converted a hat-trick, Jack Kynnaston, James Collins, Callum Shepherd, Ben Wilson and a Will Humphreys from the penalty spot.

Last weekend we there were three sides at Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 level representing the RAM Leisure League at Ruthin Town. The jewel in the RAM crown were the Under 16 side manager by Gareth Valentine Jnr. This will be the third consecutive time that the U16 side have won this trophy and success against strong sides. In their opening match they played Stockport and was very unlucky not to win, they took the lead with an outstanding individual goal from Adam Edam but two late strikes from Stockport shaded things in their favour. The 2nd match was against Clwyd but they were soon trailing 1-0. They hit back with the first action of the second half with an excellent strike Ryan Williams who covered every blade of grass in the tournament then Ian Williams scored a second goal with about 10 minutes to go and to cement the win. Malcolm Mbako put the result out of reach. Ultimate success all hinged around the final and third game against Chester who took an early lead. Ian Williams levelled the match with a superbly struck free kick and then it was game on. Adam Edam put Wrexham ahead when he scored his second of the tournament the whole team was buzzing when John McGrath scored the third goal and his first of the tournament and it was the nail in the coffin for Chester and the three points that enabled Gareth Valentines side to win the Anglo-welsh tournament . “The players showed great attitudes and a credit to there clubs they play for and the Wrexham and District Youth League. Full credit must however go to team manager Gareth Valentine is his first ever solo appointment.

At Under 12’s level, Wrexham were pipped into second spot. The had the best of possible starts and defeated Stockport 1-0. They really gelled and in the opening game they defeated the eventual winners playing some real quality football. Ryan Kershaw and Taylor Clayton were outstanding in attack and there were some solid performance at the back from Jack Edwards but man of the match was Ross White who scored an outstanding 25 yard goal in the last minute to give WDYFL their first win. Such high standards however could not be repeated in their second and in awful conditions, the boys never got going and went down 2-0. Needing to win by five clear goals against the Clwyd League to lift the cup, they gave everything and more. Taylor Clayton thought he had given the reds exactly that when the game was sitting at 5-1 only to see his goal disallowed for off side.

The Under 14's managed by Danny Brown went into the tournament as the leagues best hope but defeats against Stockport and Chester put pay to their progress but they did manage to clinch a 1-0 success over the Clwyd League courtesy of a Ryan Fisher goal.
