WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 22nd March 2008

Summary by Phil Jones

The top action at the weekend was at Bradley Park in the Tony Collins Under 12 Memorial Cup which was at its semi final stage. In arctic conditions, both games were won quite convincingly.

The Llangollen versus Rhos Aelwyd clash started off rather tentatively with both sides sizing each other up but once Llan got their opening goal after 15 minutes they did not look back with the diminutive Ryan Walker who really was a bundle of dynamite. He bagged a first half brace of goals and despite carrying a nasty knock he came back on to complete his hat-trick later in the game. Taking Llan into double figures were Will Pluves, the impressive James Fell who also bagged a treble, Rob Davies and defender Danny Edwards.

Marford and Gresford Albion clearly defied the odds to demolish Brymbo Lodge who are six places above them in the league and they really did raise their game to have manager Nathan Roberts jumping for joy. Two early goals from Connor Keenan had The Lodge on the ropes and Albion never looked back after this point. Mark Shaw(2) and Gareth Hughes completed this 6-1 rout.

There was just the one league game and Marchwiel United proved too hot for Brickfield Rangers to handle. Making up the 8-1 romp were Richard Bevis and Nick Hughes with a hat-trick apiece, Dylan Williams and Alistair Belk with Gary Ray hitting back for visiting Brickie.

In the Under 13 League in Section One, Brickfield Rangers scored six goals away from home yet still finished on the losing side so contributions from Jordan Jenkins(2), Scott Watkins, Luke Bowen and Ryan Hughes was to no avail. The difference between the two sides however was Ben Wilson who was in immaculate form and he weighed in with a six goal salvo and completing the goals spree were Jack Kynnaston(2) and Connor Morris.

Coedpoeth United squandered a 2-1 lead carved out by Alex Hughes and Ryan Edwards but a double strike from Danny Harrison squared the match enabling Connor Jones to snatch a last gasp winner for visiting Rhos Aelwyd.

Johnstown Youth shared four goals and the points with FC Borras Park Rangers who were on target through Zac Butler and Jack Dicken but the hosts were worth a point which was achieved with efforts from an og and Triston Richards.

Marchwiel Colts were whitewashed 10-by Mold Juniors who had Lee Jones and Adam Offless in scintillating form getting an equal share of eight goals. Completing the debacle were Adam Roberts and John Jones.

In Section Two, Bala Juniors were floored in their own back yard by Marchwiel United who took all three points with strikes from Kyle Ellrick, Dave Jameson and Jack Edwards.

Borras Park Rangers kept their title hopes alive with a 3-1 win at Garden Village, their marksmen were Zac Degale(2) and George Ford with Luke Davis at one point.

In the Under 14 League in Section One, Ruthin Town whitewashed Corwen Youth 6-0 and they had on target, John Childs and Iolo Hughes bagged two goals apiece with Kristian Pierce and Brandon Keating completing the debacle.

In the odd game in Section Two, Llay went nap to defeat hosts Llangollen 5-2, their marksmen were Adam Burgess, Matt Worral, Luke Bagnall, Ryan and Liam Fisher.

At Under 15 level in Section One, top dogs Venture did their title hopes a power of good with a 5-2 romp at Llangollen. They cannot be caught and one more point will secure the title outright. Making up their nap hand were Ryan Forward, Josh Roberts and a hat-trick from Rob Hoosan. Reducing the deficit were Max Claridge and Rhys Williams.

Coedpoeth United failed to contain the impressive Maelor Youth who won this encounter with ease 6-2. On target were Jake Chaplain(2), Lewis Williams, Alex Thompson-Paynter, Harry Robinson and Steve Scott with the United response coming from Danny Bennion and a Jack Roberts header.

Marchwiel United were on the wrong end of a 5-2 drubbing against Ruthin Town who went nap through Dafydd Davies, Arwyn Edwards, Jack Williams, Tom Allen and Rashard Jones with Sam Thorley and Mike Allen hitting back.

In the Under 16 League, Garden Village had a narrow 2-0 win over Coedpoeth United and Ruthin Town shared four goals in a 2-2 draw with Rhostyllen Youth. Ruthin twice led through Alex Gill and Gwydion Ifan but Rhostyllen kept their title hopes alive twice pegging things back through Kieran Ansloos and Mark Burrows.
