WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 15th March 2008

Summary by Phil Jones

The top action last weekend was in the Under 12 League Cup which was at its Semi Finals stage and both games were real classics and produced a level of performance of the highest calibre. The Borras Park Rangers versus Brickfield Rangers game proved to be a real epic and the game finished goal-less after both full and extra time but in the ensuing penalty shoot out Rangers kept their nerve to win 4-1 on penalties.

Meeting Rangers in the final on the 18th May at Wrexham Racecourse will Garden Village who edged through 3-0 against Acrefair Youth but the game was much closer than the score suggests. Macauley Hart was the jewel in the Garden Village crown weighing in with a double salvo and sandwiched in between was a Sam Molyneux effort.

In the league at this level there was scant action and there was just the one game in section one which involved Marchwiel United clinching a 5-2 result at Marford and Gresford. Richard Bevis and a four goal salvo from the prolific Nick Hughes made up their nap and with Liam Price and Gareth Jones reducing the deficit.

In section two, Ruthin Town were on the prowl again and they walloped Maelor 11-2. Josh Carney was top gun with a treble and completing their tally were Tom Dyer, Jacob Williams, Andrew Lewis, Rob Dodd(2), Meredydd Jones, Cernyw Evans and Jame Jones. Rhys Williams and Taylor Jones responded for Maelor.

At Under 13 League level in Section One, Mold Juniors strengthened their grip at the top of the league with a splendid 3-1 victory over Johnstown and man of the match Lee Jones converted a hat-trick for Mold with the visitors hitting back through Matty Jones.

Kamil Bancer and Jordon Jenkins combined for Brickfield Rangers to clinch a 2-0 success over Coedpoeth United.

FC Borras Park Rangers came unstuck with opponents Rhosddu United just shading things 3-2 with a well contrived hat-trick from Dave Bowen. Replying for the hosts were Steve Thomas and Danny Jones.

Llangollen Youth took maximum points from their encounter with Brymbo Lodge winning through with strikes from Clive Thomas, Joe Morris and Ryan Curphy.

Rhos Aelwyd were amongst the days highest scorers crushing plucky Marchwiel Colts 17-1. Ian Hughes was in riveting form notching nine goals as his side went on a real goal binge. Completing the spree were Steff Parry with four goals, Dafydd Williams, Scott Reeves, Scott Baldam and Jake Jones.

In Section Two, match of the day was at Ruthin Town who faced second placed and title favourites Borras Park Rangers and the 1-1 draw will have suited Rangers in their quest for top honours. Zac Degale notched after Ollie Hughes had netted for hosts Ruthin.

Bala Juniors were sunk 11-2 in their own back yard by Acrefair Youth who were on target through Aled Parry who collected a nap hand of goals, Tom May notched a hat-trick with Callum Nash(2) and Jared Southwell cementing the win.

Borras Park Albion defeated lowly FC Brickfield 6-2 and their marksmen were Lloyd Bagnall(2), Layton Evans, Josh Baker, Callum Powell and James Purdie. Replying for Brickie were Aaron Diamond and Luke Roberts.

Garden Village kept up the pressure on the leaders with a slender 2-1 success at Marchwiel and the architect behind both goals was midfielder Adam Denoven and he laid things on a plate for Ashley Parry and Ryan Thomas, levelling at one stage for the hosts was Jack Edwards.

In a reversed game, Park Youth swapped their game with Marford and Gresford Albion to their opponents game and still came through the clash with flying colours, 8-3 to be precise. Tyrone Hopson bagged five of the Park goals with Kurt Roberts, Joe Darlington and Kian Jones accounting for the rest. Hitting back for Albion were Matt McCarthy, Connor Griffiths and Ged Jones.

In the Under 14 League in Section One, leaders Borras Park Albion keep top spot after defeating Bala Juniors 4-2 and there was a familiar look to their scorers list. On target were Josh Whitehead, Dale Edwards, Corey Smart and Zehn Anwar.

Maelor Youth were whitewashed 14-0 in their own back yard by Ruthin Town to keep their title hopes alive. Iolo Hughes led the scoring with a treble and amongst the rest on the score sheet were Nathan Jones(2), Phyl Roberts(2) Dan Lloyd(2), Les Brophy, Brandon Keating, Arwyn Davies and David Finnie.

Marchwiel United shared four goals and the points with Penycae Youth who are enjoying a fine back half to their season. On target for the hosts was Mark Mathews with a brace of goals and replying for Penycae were Ryan Jones and Callum Edge.

A double strike from Tom Hallam enabled Rhosddu United to topple Garden Village who replied through Ryan Edwards.

Turning to Section Two, second placed Llay United were turned over 5-3 at Marford and Gresford Albion who raced into a 5-0 half time lead and went nap through Joe Broderick John Roberts, Mark Lewis and two goals from Callum Parry. Llay showed up better after the break and pegged things back to 5-3 with strikes from Ryan Fisher(2) and Liam Fisher.

Chirk Youth slammed Coedpoeth United 9-3 and Naz Fahat netted a magnificent seven of the Chirk goals, completing the debacle were Lewis Jones and Ryan Jackson. United replied through an own goal and a Mike Pugh double blast.

Rhos Aelwyd with games in hand have gone back top after defeating Llangollen Youth 13-2. Lloyd Marsden was top gun with five goals, completing the debacle were Dafydd Robertson(2), Ryan Jenkins, Josh Griffiths(2), Ryan Jones and Danny Gibbon.

The key action in the afternoon was in the NEWFA Challenge Cup and the Mynydd Isa clash against Garden Village game was a real tense affair. At the end of full and extra time there were no goals but there was no doubt the games most magical moment came at the death when Isa had a penalty to clinch matters but a brave save from Luke Thornhill proved oh so important. In the spot-kick show down Village eventually went through 4-3.

In the Under 15 League in Section One, Ruthin Town have gone second following their 4-2 victory at Brickfield Rangers which was orchestrated by goals from Robbie Crynes. Arwyn Edwards, Rashad Jones and Tom Allen. Hitting back were Ryan Powell and Mike Daniels.

Lewis Edwards is having an awesome season and he was the difference between the two sides at Tower Fields were he struck four times in Maelor’s 5-4 win at Llangollen. Making up their nap hand was Alex Thompson-Paynter.

In Section Two, six goals and he spoils were shared when Rhosddu United met Johnstown Youth. On target for the hosts were Lucas Godfrey, the impish Steven Elliott and Sammy Tangh. Hitting back with a hat-trick was Sam Roberts.

In the Under 16 League, Rhostyllen Youth have looked so invincible all season but they were given a lesson in finishing by Marford and Gresford Albion who had the returning Dave Lloyd making the difference between the sides and his excellent contribution was rewarded with a hat-trick all after Danny McDonald had opened their account.

On Sunday in the Girls football, at Under 13 level, Marford and Gresford had one of the best results defeating Garden Village 9-0. Hot shot Emily Sutcliffe weighed in with four goals which included two powerful headers. Completing the whitewash were Lauren Jones(2), Leanne McGrath(2) and Katie Sharp.

Mold Juniors had a narrow 2-1 victory over Park Youth, Hannha Williams and Rachel Hughes got the winners goals with Anya Randles responding.

Brickfield failed to make an impression at Penycae who won this encounter 3-1 with strikes from Abbie Davies, Jodie Richards(2), Zoe Johnson and Bethan Jones with Lyndsey Williams replying.

At Under 11, Penycae defeated Brickfield 2-1 with goals from Lauren Rhys and Chelsea Jackson.
