WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 8th March 2008

Summary by Phil Jones

Writing his way into the record books in the Under 13 league in Section Two at the weekend was Tom Duckett who bagged nine goals in his sides 21-1 win at Brickfield and this is a class performance at any standard. Completing the haul and getting amongst the scorers were Keiran Taylor, Ashley Parry, Luke Davies, Luke Jones, James Duckett, Theo Pumford, Ryan Thomas, Sam Felgate and Harri Gould.

Acrefair Youth proved too hot to handle for visiting Marford and Gresford Albion who they beat quite comfortably 7-2. The hosts were in uncompromising mood and had just the two scorers, Aled Parry fired a four goal salvo and Josh Evans captured a hat-trick. Albion did manage to hit back through Connor Griffiths and midfield dynamo Nathan Koumas.

Borras Park Albion scrapped out a thrilling 1-1 draw with Park Youth who levelled with a stunning shot from distance by man of the match Tyrone Hopson after Shaun Carter had broke the deadlock.

In Section One, there was a huge surprise in store for previously unbeaten Mold Juniors who suffered their first defeat of the season going down 4-1 at Rhos Aelwyd. Ian Hughes and Dan Harrison bagged two goal apiece but Aelwyd’s best player was Morgan Williams who shone like a beacon. Hitting back was Tom Gillett.

Dave Bowen almost guaranteed his place in the Evening Leaders Team of the week with an awesome display for Rhosddu. He netted all of his sides goals as they won 4-1 at Brymbo Lodge who reduced the arrears through John Paul Weston.

Another four goal salvo merchant was Ben Wilson, he scored all four of Chirk’s goals in their narrow 4-3 success at Coedpoeth. Netting the hosts goals were Rhys Edwards, Tom Roberts who had earlier saved a penalty but then as an outfield player got his sides third goal.

Matt Smith converted a hat-trick as his side Johnstown ran up a double figure score to defeat Marchwiel Colts 10-0. Completing the rout were Dean Williams, Harry Jones, Triston Richards, Matt Jones, Josh Millington, Alex Williams and Bradley Hughes.

The NEWFA Under 13 Tesco Cup Semi Final clash between Borras Park Rangers and Ruthin Town had everything. As expected the quality of soccer dished up proved to be a terrific advert for Youth soccer and what a huge shame that one team had to lose and that in the end turned out to be Rangers who ended up at 1-1 after normal and extra time and Ruthin won on pens. Jack Griffiths had netted for Rangers and Tirion Roberts for Ruthin before the dramatic conclusion to the game.

In the Under 12 League Section One there was a full programme and the title race clearly will go down to the wire. League leaders Acrefair were in convincing form and they had an easy 12-1 passage in their local derby at Cefn United. Doing all of the damage were Joe Roberts, Aled Bartley and Jordan Powell with a treble apiece with Dylan Morris and Adam Hughes(2) completing the spree. Securing the solitary consolation goal was Nathan Edwards.

Gary Reilly hit back for Brickfield Rangers despite taking a 5-1 drilling from Brymbo Lodge who went nap through Matt Jones who weighed in with a four goal salvo and Levi Clemson.

Chirk Youth narrowly defeated FC Garden Village 3-2 and their marksmen were Jamil Bashir and Ben Pugh(2).

Will Pluves gave Llangollen and early advantage but Marchwiel United hit back through Richard Bevis(pen)and Nicky Hughes to take the points.

Marford and Gresford Albion were not at their best and failed to make an impression against ten men Whitegate Wanderers who wrapped up their programme with a 6-4 victory. Jordan Davies has taken the league by storm and he added another fours goals to his tally with Jason Davies making the points safe. Replying for Albion were Gareth Hughes(2), Ryan Foulkes and an OG.

In Section Two, we can confirm the first piece of silverware to be won this season has been by Borras Park Rangers, their 5-1 victory over Coedpoeth has seen them being confirmed champions. Making up their nap hand were Nathan Gregory, Dan Jarrett and Ryan Kershaw with a treble.

A single strike from Brandon Humphries enabled Garden Village to defeat Rhos Aelwyd 1-0.

Maelor Youth were floored 5-2 by Johnstown who went nap through Ryan Hanmer(2) and Jake Simms with a treble. Niale Dubicki reduced the deficit.

Borras Park Albion proved too hot for Llay United to handle and goals from Jacob Jones, Jack Reece and Tyrone Clutton eased them to a 3-0 victory.

Tom Povey(2) and Alex Richie Jones hit back for Rhosddu in their 7-3 drubbing by Ruthin Town who had an articulate little player Llyr Morris who converted a hat-trick with Jamie Jones and Rob Dodd bagging two goals apiece.

At Under 14 League level in Section One, Borras Park Albion were put to the sword and just an upright denied Penycae’s Callum Edge squaring the match which Albion just shaded with strikes from Josh Whitehead and Dale Edwards after Sam Jones had levelled for Penycae.

Maelor Youth failed to contain Corwen Youth who prospered 4-0.

Marchwiel United shared six goals and the points with Rhosddu United whose marksmen were Tom Hallom(2) and Anthony Hope who grabbed a last gasp equaliser after United looked in contention to take maximum points and their marksmen were Ashley Salisbury and Jason Murphy(2).

Ruthin Town were in rampant mood to polish off Garden Village 9-0. On target were John Childes with a treble, Iolo Hughes(2), Dave Finnie(2) and Joe Evans.

In Section Two, Coedpoeth United with just the odd win to their credit had one of the days best results when they held league leafers Brickfield to a 2-2 draw. Mike Pugh and Marcus Finchett netted the hosts goals with Tom Williams replying with a double blast.

Adam Burgess was on target for Llay United in their 1-1 draw with Rhos Aelwyd who squared matters through Ryan Jenkins.

Marford and Gresford Albion defeated Park Youth 5-3 and making up their nap hand were Callum Parry and Joe Broderick with a hat-trick.

Mold Juniors marksmen in their 3-2 win against Chirk Youth were Oliver Marshall and Liam Roberts(2), Naz Farhat replied with a brace of goals for Chirk.

Cup football dominated the afternoon programme and in the NEWFA Under 16 Cup quarter finals, the Mynydd Isa clash with Garden Village game was called off when he referee became unavailable.

Borras Park Albion booked a semi final berth with a 5-3 win at Chirk AAA’s and making up their nap hand were Nicky Dunn, Dean Matthews, Steven Jones, Scott Evans and Matthew Braisdale with a stunning shot from distance.

Gareth Jones provided a single response for Rhos Aelwyd who bowed out 2-1 against Park Youth.

Ruthin Town progressed with a convincing 4-0 victory over Rhostyllen and their goals flowed from Dion Jones and an Adam Eden hat-trick.

There was a re-arranged Under 16 supplementary cup which involved Coedpoeth beating hosts Llangollen by the odd goal in seven. Danny Williams, Dan Furber, Ian Turner and Nkonde Liandisha bagged the winners goals with Steff Edwards and Kristian Jones keeping Llan in the game until the final whistle.

In the Under 15 league, it has been a two horse race now for some time and slight favourites for the title Venture had a comfortable 6-2 win at Marchwiel United who hit back through Tom Lea and Alistair Gibson.

Second placed Llangollen were released from cup duty to play in the cup arena.

Third placed Ruthin Town had a very narrow win against Maelor and just shaded matters 2-1 with strikes from Jordan Reid and Lewis Isaac. Replying for Maelor who hot-shot Lewis Williams.

Mike Butterfield and Hugo Mendez scored for Brickfield in their 2-2 draw with Bala.

In the girls football on Sunday, Marford and Gresford Albion Girls suffered a rare defeat and were sunk 4-2 by Penycae and getting their two goals were Aimee Phillips and Emily Sutcliffe. Grabbing the winners goals were Beth Jones, Abby Davies(2) and Bethan White.

Brickfield Girls maintained their fine spell of form with a splendid 3-1 over Chirk B on target were Nia Davies(2) and Lucy Oliver.

Penycae Under 11’s defeated Llay 4-2, Laura Rees(2), Elisha Buffey and Lowri Parry.
