WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 12th January 2008
 Summary by Phil Jones

Acrefair Youth moved one step nearer to the finals day at Wrexham Racecourse with an emphatic 9-0 romp at Coedpoeth in the quarter finals of the Under 12 League Cup. Leading the romp with a treble was Connor Rogers. Jordon Powell notched twice with Adam Hughes, Deiniol Parfitt, Aled Bartley and Joe Roberts making the tie safe.

Garden Village go through into the next round after convincing 9-1 rout against Whitegate Wanderers. Ross White was all go and rewarded with a hat-trick, Sam Molyneux(2), Ryan Merrill, James Gardner, Macaley Hart and Zac Price cemented the win with Jordan Davies hitting back.

Ryan Kershaw and Lewis Edwards combined for Borras Park Rangers to just shade their tie against Marchwiel United who levelled at one point through Richard Bevis.

Johnstown Youth had their Racecourse dreams shattered by Brickfield Rangers who had Cammy Woolnough and Gary Ray on target with Lewis Bickerton-Cole replying.

There was just the one Tony Collins Memorial Cup Round 1 game being contested and it allowed Brymbo Lodge to defeat Llay United 5-1 who replied through Ed Brown who notched his third goal in as many games.

In Round 2 of the same competition, man of the match and skipper Geraint Andrews scored four goals for Rhos Aelwyd as they thrashed hapless Rhosddu 9-0. Completing the rout were Dewi Griffiths(2), Will McKnight, Dafydd Williams and Jake Allen.

Will Pluves is making a name for himself down Llangollen way – he converted a hat-trick as his side whitewashed Maelor Youth 9-0. Huw Wiliams(2), Ryan Bywater, James Fell and Rob Davies added to their tally.

In the Under 13 League Section One, Mold Juniors have gone five points clear at the top after beating Brickfield Rangers 4-0 with goals from Lee Jones, John Jones, Tom Gillett and Adam Offless but the catalyst for their triumph was defender Sean Jones who was an absolute rock.

Coedpoeth United were floored 3-0 by Rhosddu United who had Danny Jones(2) and Jake Williams demonstrating quick feet.

Johnstown Youth lost ground and were beaten for the first time this season 3-2 by Brymbo Lodge and this was no fluke. Ryan Gould, Jake James and Matt Turner notched the winners goals with Brad Hughes and Matt Smith replying.

The Park Youth clash with FC Brickfield was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

There was excitement galore in the TESCO CUP where out of sorts Marford and Gresford Albion came good at last to record an emphatic 5-2 haul against Chirk Youth and making up their nap hand were Matt McCarthy, Jack Bunkell, Jack Koumas, Mike Flynn and Connor Griffiths.

Ewloe Harriers had to be split by a penalty shoot out and it was Ewloe who kept their nerve to go through 5-4 after the game had ended all square with Penyffordd at 2-2. For the record book then, Luke Detton and Tom Hainsworth netted the Harriers goals but a Gavin Roden double had the visitors in with a shout.

Garden Village were outwitted 3-0 by Borras Park Rangers who are a great bet for honours. Regular ‘goal-grabbers’ Zac Ryan and Zac Forber(2) made the tie safe.

Llangollen were sunk 7-1 by Ruthin Town who progressed with ease courtesy of strikes from Oliver Hughes plus doubles from Tirion Roberts, Harri Owen, Stephen Willsdon and Oliver Hughes.

Turning to the Under 14 League in Section One, leaders Ruthin Town were on the rampage once more and they peppered Brymbo Lodge 6-0 with strikes from Kristian Pierce, Danny Lloyd, Josh David and Phil Roberts with a hat-trick.

Borras Park Albion defeated Maelor Youth 7-1 courtesy of efforts Matt Kaldowski(2), Josh Underwood(2), Corey Smart, Taylor Rogers and Josh Whitehead.

Despite Rhosddu United and Penycae Youth failing to find the net it was a pulsating fixture to watch. Amy Wilsher for Rhosddu and Callum Edge for the visitors had the games best chances.
Turning to Section Two, Llay United were amongst the days highest scorers and they mauled Llangollen Youth 10-0. In that match, Ryan Fisher converted a hat-trick, Luke Bagnall. Ben Williams and Adam Burgess notched two goals apiece with Luke Edwards and Matt Worral completing the goal binge.

In the Under 14 League Cup which was at its Round 2 stage, Brickfield came good to account for Garden Village 6-0. Making up their six pack were Tom Williams with a hat-trick, Tom Lloyd(2) and Jack Pawley.

Corwen Youth switched their tie to Marchwiel United which really suited them, Shane Griffiths, Mark Mathews and Owen Mazzeralla booked them a Round 3 passage.

The afternoon programme was totally dedicated to League Cup action and the match of the day saw Ruthin get out of jail with an injury time equaliser from Jack Williams to finish the tie at 3-3 and they then went on to win the penalty shoot out 5-4. A double from Keiran Ansloos and a John McGrath goal had the hosts sitting pretty but in addition to the Williams goal, Gwidion Ifan and Adam Edan kept Ruthin in the game.

Chirk Youth proved too strong for the younger Marford and Gresford Albion side and won by a good margin. Josh Langford and Simon Williams notched a hat-trick apiece and two goal each from Lewis Penrose, Josh Roberts and Harry Jones had the hosts on the ropes but Evan Morgan bagged a brace of goals in return.

Marford and Gresford Albion senior side did triumph however with a marginal 5-4 victory over Park Youth. Albion let slip a 4-0 lead carved out by a Lee Parry treble and Danny Lloyd with Park sensationally fighting their way back into the tie to square matters through Deiniol Williams, Luke Roberts and Liam Nicholson(2) but a rare and overdue goal from skipper Rob Ellingford gave Albion the edge.

Borras Park Albion secured a semi final berth with a narrow 1-0 win over Marchwiel United with Danny Jones getting the games only goal.
