WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE

Saturday 23rd February 2008

Summary by Phil Jones

There was plenty of football played this weekend and without a shadow of doubt one of the very best results was at Under 16 level were lowly Marchwiel United played some of their best football of the season to carve out a 2-1 win over runaway league leaders Ruthin Town. Tom Roden and Kris Dickenson grabbed the goals and although Jack Williams pegged a goal back, United took maximum points from this encounter.

Rhostyllen made hard work of accounting for Garden Village. Mark Burrows with a brace of goals and John McGrath gave them a commanding lead but Garden Village hit back through Dafydd Kember and Joe Jarvis and although they deserved a point the equaliser never arrived.

Borras Park Albion slammed Coedpoeth United 7-1. Leading the way with a treble was Danny Jones and making up the haul were Dean Matthews(2), Nathan Williams and Alex Denoven.

Park Youth proved to hot for Marford and Gresford Albion to handle and they were on target through Luke Roberts(2) and Liam Nicholson with Grant Hughes responding.

Chirk Youth were just pipped 3-2 at home by Rhos Aelwyd who had Dwayne Jones(2) and Mike Rowlands making the points safe after Lewis Penrose and Josh Langford had Chirk in with a say.

At Under 15 level in Section One, it was imperative Venture raised their game to combat the challenge of Llangollen and rest assured they came good at the right time. Making a huge impact in their 6-2 win was Ryan Forward who weighed in with a double salvo. Ryan Jones, Zac Bailey, Nathan Smith and Sam Jones completed their tally. Llan offered some hope through Ryan Anderson and Max Claridge.

Ruthin Town defeated struggling Marford and Gresford Albion 2-0 with strikes from Jordon Aldsbury and Tom Allen.

Man of the match Lewis Williams bagged five goals for Maelor Youth as they picked off Brickfield Rangers 7-1. Mark Mottershead completed the spree with a two goal blast with Mike Daniels pegging a goal back.

Coedpoeth United beat Marchwiel United quite convincingly 10-2. Taking them up into double figures were Daniel Bennion with a treble. Dan Parry(2), James Rogers(2), Geraint Griffiths, Adam Jones and Nathan Jones with Sam Thorley netting a two goal reply.

In section two, Park Youth claimed the scalp of Rhosddu United but only just – winning 2-0 with efforts from Ryan Brimfield and Dan Jones.

Llay United slipped up 4-0 at home to champions elect Borras Park Albion whose marksmen were Steven Jones(2), Ryan Jones and Jack Challinor.

There was plenty of cup soccer on offer in the morning and centre stage we had the first of the two Under 13 Tesco Semi finals and Ewloe Harriers polished off Marford and Gresford Albion 3-1. All of the goals came in the first half. For Ewloe, Luke Getton, Charlie Bradford and Rob Williams gate crashed the Marford party in a game which saw James Griffiths hit back

In the replayed NEWFA Cup game at Rhos Aelwyd, Aled Reece again showed what a class act he is bagging both goals for Buckley as they narrowly beat their hosts 2-1 with Josh Griffiths reducing the deficit.

There was a fair amount of rearranged Cup action and at Under 14 level, Corwen Youth went on a goal binge to defeat Bala Juniors 10-0.

Marchwiel United were on the wrong end of a 7-0 score-line against Llay United who had Ryan Fisher licking his side into shape with a hat-trick. Liam Fisher struck twice with Adam Burgess and Ben Williams adding to their tally.

In Round 2, Acrefair Youth ended Coedpoeth United’s hope of glory and they prospered 5-1. Making up their nap hand were Aled Berry(2), Tom May, an og and Jack Hodgkinson with the very impressive Jack Parry preventing a rout in the Coedpoeth goal.

Brymbo Lodge got the better of Borras Park Albion Under 13’s in a match which was temporarily held up by the mad antics of stray dog. Lodge just shaded this tie with strikers ‘JP’ Weston and Matt Turner(2) doing the main damage. Jake James completed the scoring with Shaun Carter and Leon Duncan hitting back.

Callum Edge, Ryan Jones and Sam Jones all grabbed two goals apiece as Penycae Youth defeated Maelor Youth 6-3 and replying were Jordon Boyd(2) and Aled Williams.

In the league at this level, Ruthin Town powered their way to a convincing 6-0 victory at Marchwiel United, amongst the goals were Kristian Pierce(2), an OG, Brandon Keating, Iolo Hughes and Jon Childs.

Garden Village narrowly defeated Brymbo Lodge 2-1 and making the points safe were Jake McDermott and James Gibson with George Phoenix hitting back.

Borras Park Albion stay safely in second spot though after beating Rhosddu United 3-1. On target were the usual suspects of Taylor Rogers, Josh Whitehead and Josh Underwood.

In Section Two, Brickfield Rangers have gone top as a consequence of nicking a 6-1 verdict at Llangollen. Making up the Brickfield tally were Tom Lloyd(2), Tom Williams, Ryan Thomas, Matt Smith and Ryan Hannaby.

Lewis Bradley hit back for Park Youth in their 3-1 reversal against Coedpoeth who appeared to be enjoying their overdue success created by Marcus Finchett(2) and Tom Redmond but the games best player was Ross Gilmore.

There was a full Under 12 programme and in Section One, most things went to plan with the title race a two horse affair. Slight favourites are Acrefair who slammed Chirk Youth 9-1. Man of the match Connor Rogers bagged a brace of goals with Aled Bartley claiming the match ball after converting a hat-trick and piling on the agony were Harry Duke, Jordan Powell, Dylan Morris all after Deiniol Powell had started the ball rolling with the opening goal. Getting a lone response for Chirk was Jamil Bashir.

Brymbo Lodge have no intention to concede a thing at this stage of the season best emphasised by their 7-1 slamming of FC Garden Village. Their marksmen included Jordan Davies and Levi Clemson who grabbed two goals apiece, Lewis Evans, Keiran Jones and Matt Jones.

Back on the winning trail were Marford and Gresford Albion who peppered Cefn United 6-2. In top form for the Albion with a hat-trick was Gareth Hughes and competing their tallhat os y were Mark Shaw(2) and Liam Price. Hitting back were Josh Evans and Luke Thomas.

Brickfield Rangers slipped up 3-2 at home to Llangollen Youth who were on target through Jame Fell(2) and Will Pluves.

Marchwiel United were amongst the days highest scorers and in Nick Hughes they had a young man in inspirational form he set what is possibly a club record of notching eleven goals in the 15-1 drubbing of Whitegate Wanderers. Dylan Williams, Michael Belk and Richard Bevis also played cameo roles. Wanderers however on started with nine players and finished with eight which did influence matters and getting a lone consolation goal for them was Jordan Davies.

Turning to Section Two, there is a high tempo match of the day being contested between Borras Park Rangers and Garden Village and it was a real cat and mouse affair with defences very much on top so it was no real surprise that this was also the days draw banker with the delivery of a goal-less draw.

Liam Wilson, Josh Jones,Sam Jones, Jacob Jones and Ryan Pearce made up the Borras Park nap hand win against Maelor Youth who reduced the margin with a brace of goals from Dan Hampson.

Llay United were beaten into second place by plucky Rhosddu United who won this clash 3-1 with efforts from Adam Shone(2) and Alex Nightingale.

Coedpoeth United and Johnstown Youth shared 12 goals in a high scoring game with Johnstown coming out on top 7-5. Their marksmen were Jake Ellison, Jake Simmons with a treble. Lewis Bickerton-Cole, Joe Jones and Taylor Clayton. Coedpoeth don’t often score five goals at home and lose so the contribution from Keiran Taylor(2), Corey Jones and Joe Williams(2) did not account for a lot in the end.

Rhos Aelwyd failed to contain a rampant Ruthin Town who went nap to whitewash their hosts. On target were Tom Dyer(2), Jamie Jones, Josh Carney and Rob Dodd.

There was a skeleton set of games in the girls section and Coedpoeth shared six goals with Mold. Emma Holland bagged a treble for the hosts and Sinead Crawford also converted a hat-trick for Mold.
