WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE
 Saturday 2nd February 2008
 Summary by Phil Jones

The fixture list was almost decimated at the weekend but several key matches did go ahead. Worse affected of course was the NEWFA Challenge Cup games and all those cancelled have been pushed back to next weekend.

In the Under 16 competition, Rhos Aelwyd accounted for Broncoed Tigers quite convincingly in fact,8-0. On the goal trail were Craig Spencer ,Duane Jones and Nathan Evans who all weighed in with double salvo’s and completing the whitewash were Mike Rowlands and an own goal.

Also through to the next round are Ruthin Town who had a hat-trick hero in Gwydion Ifan, he netted all of his sides goals in their 3-0 success at Mold Juniors.

Only one game went ahead in the Under 14 competition and sadly that game ended prematurely with the referee calling a halt to the proceedings minutes before the end of the game after a touchline altercation at a stage when Rhos were losing 2-1 at home to Buckley Juniors.

In the Under 12 League, Llangollen Youth were the days highest scorers cranking up an 18-0 victory over Cefn United who are earning much praise for the way they hold their heads high and are proving to be excellent ambassadors for their sportsmanship. For Llangollen, James Fell was top gun with a four goal return. There were double salvos for skipper Will Pluves and Huw Williams, Ryan Walker and Jay Brook netted a hat-trick apiece with Dan Smith completing the hosts tally.

What a terrific day it was for Jordan Davies, he weighed in with a nap hand of goals for Whitegate Wanderers in their 9-4 success over Garden Village then after lunch he was senior ‘ballboy’ at GAP Queens Park in their exciting Welsh Cup win over Caerleon. For the record book then, completing the Whitegate goal binge was Bradley Sandford with a four goal haul.

Turning to Section Two on a carpet of thawing snow both Rhosddu and Rhos Aelwyd made the most of the slippery surface and in a keenly contested game Rhos Aelwyd prospered 8-1. Pivotal in keeping the score down was central defender Laura Turnbull who was a colossus and goalkeeper Ryan Williams. Jake Allen converted a hat-trick for the winners with Carwyn Davies, Michael Constanzo, Ieuan Davies and Richie Andrews completing their tally with the clubs top scorer Alex Ritchie Jones replying.

Ruthin Town just shaded their clash with Johnstown Youth 4-3 and making sure the points were credited to the hosts were Josh Carney, Meredyth Jones, Roberts Dodd and Llyr Morris.

We had a rearranged Under 15 League game which went ahead without a hitch and the conditions best suited Chirk who defeated Rhosddu 3-1 with strikes from Billy Nash and Tom Jones(2). Mike Donaldson on his debut replied for the visitors.

There was a delayed Under 16 League Cup game on the cards involving Park Youth and Marford and Gresford Albion Under 16’s and the age advantage clearly worked in Albion’s favour who comfortably achieved passage into the next round. Lee Parry was in sensational form notching seven goals, Roy Morris fired a four goal salvo with Danny McDonald completed the spree with Ryan Brimfield(2) and Jake Hopley replying.
