WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE
Summary by Phil Jones

Saturday 12th April 2008

After such an excellent campaign it looks as if Acrefair Youth have been caught on the home straight after arch rivals Marchwiel United turned them over 5-1 in their own back yard. The best they can hope for now is a ‘play-off’ success next month but that will be dependant on them winning their last game of the campaign though. Making up the visitors nap hand were Richard Bevis, Harry Powell and Nick Hughes who weighed in with a treble to take his seasons goal tally way past the 60 mark which is quite incredible at any level. Notching the lone consolation goal was Aled Bartley.

Garden Village whitewashed Borras Park Albion 6-0 and their marksmen were Ryan Merill, Sam Molyneux plus Jack Peers and sub Macauley Hart who weighed in with a brace of goals apiece.

There was a rearranged Under 12 League Section Two game which involved Coedpoeth defeating Maelor 5-3. Making up the hosts nap hand were Kate Rennie, Coey Jones, Keiran Taylor, Dan Roberts and Joe Williams with Jason Edwards and Dan Hampson(2) responding.

In the Under 13 League in Section One, the title race continues to be a two horse affair, overnight leaders Mold Juniors had their game at Llangollen washed out and Rhos Aelwyd were without game so Johnstown made up some ground with a splendid 10-0 victory over Coedpoeth. Dean Williams grabbed four goals and Josh Millington converted a hat-trick to set the scene and completing the spree were Matt Jones(2) and George Roberts.

Rhosddu United just shaded their close encounter with Chirk Youth by the odd goal in seven, on target for Rhosddu were Jack Morris, Jack Dacey, Jake Williams and Sam Rogers who is maturing like a fine wine.

Marchwiel Colts were overpowered 12-1 by Brymbo Lodge who had the games best player in John Paul Weston who crashed in five goals all on his very own. Completing the romp were Jake James, Ryan Williams, Dean Morris, Ryan Gould(2) and Matt Turner. Ethan Newland provided a lone consolation goal.

There was a real thriller of a contest at Court Road where FC Borras Park Rangers secured a hard fought 4-2 victory over hosts Brickfield Rangers courtesy of strikes from Keegan Jacovlevs, Jack Griffiths and a brace for Rhys Williams breaking his scoring duck for the club. Hitting back for plucky who had a stronger second half were the versatile Kamil Bancer and Scott Watkins.

Turning to Section Two, title favourites Borras Park Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw by Park Youth who took a point from this encounter with efforts from Tyrone Hobson and Andy Barrett.

There was quite a thriller on Lakeland where Bala Juniors who just out muscled FC Brickfield 7-6. Aaron Dymond is sensational form and he must have been gutted to have weighed in with a five goal salvo and still finish up on the losing side, adding to their tally was Gary Eccleston.

At Under 14 League level in Section One, leaders Ruthin Town have gone five points clear following their 4-1 triumph at Penycae Youth who hit back through Callum Edge. The victors goals were secured by Iolo Hughes(2) an OG and David Finnie.

Rhosddu United fell short to nick a point from their clash with Corwen Youth, they went down 3-2 with Tom Hallom and Shane Goode on target.

In Section Two, Mold Juniors took a another giant step forward towards finishing as champions were an excellent 4-1 win at Chirk who replied through Kai Roberts.

Rhos Aelwyd appeared to be back to their best, they hit Llay United for six, quite literally to win 6-1 with efforts from Josh Griffiths, Iolo Francis and Ryan Marsden and Ryan Jones who netted two goals apiece.

Marford and Gresford Albion have moved into third spot following their 3-1 win at Park whose keeper made a brilliant penalty save from Joe Broderick who atoned for his miss by joining Terry Roberts and Richard Jones on the scoresheet and all this was after Park had taken a deserved half time lead through Matt Yarwood.

The afternoon programme was mainly full of cup action but the match of the day encounter between Chirk and Ruthin was put on hold.

In the Kevin Wright Memorial Cup, there were goals galore which is so often the case when there are 12 months difference in age amongst the teams.

The best example being Coedpoeth’s Under 16 side beating Broncoed U15’s 7-0 and their marksmen were Dan Povah. Nik Likonda, Danny Williams Nathan Turnbull and Luke Roberts who converted a hat-trick.

Comfortably making it through to the semi finals were Ruthin Town who hammered Marchwiel United 10-0.Jordan Reid was top gun with a treble, Lewis Isaac and Jordan Oldbury notched two goals apiece and making up the spree were Dafydd Davies, Will Bowman and Arwyn Edwards.

It was anything but a cakewalk for Park Youth who were pushed all the way by Bala U15’s, taking Park through to the semi’s though were Luke Roberts, Aled Evans and Liam Nicholson.

Chirk Youth lost out by the odd goal in nine at home against Brickfield Rangers. Their marksmen were Bill Nash, Mark Dry and Nathan Cooke with a double. Making that extra goal count for Brickie were Liam Skenar(2), Lewis Jones and Josh Jones but the architect behind the win was Mike Daniels.

In the league at Under 16 level, Rhostyllen Youth maintained their pressure on the leaders with a 4-2 win against Garden Village and the neutrals might argue they were worth a point from this encounter who squandered a 2-1 lead with a brace of goals from Kenny Dwyer. Josh Griffiths levelled matters but the difference between the two sides in the end was a hat-trick from Keiran Ansloos.

Marford and Gresford Albion had a late show at home to Borras Park Albion and they came back from the dead to share eight goals and the points. Albion’s Lee Parry was their saviour netting a hat-trick on the back of a Rob Morris penalty. Danny Jones was hero turned villain for Borras notching two goals but later getting himself dismissed. Completing their tally was Dean Matthews and Nicky Dunn.

In the first leg of the Under 19 Cup, Gresford Athletic defeated Garden Village 3-0. A power header from Max Peate gave Gresford a 4th minute lead and a goal in each half from Sidney Smith sealed the victory.

Also in the NEWFA Cup at Under 14 level, Ruthin Town proved too strong for Hawarden Rangers and they clinched a 4-0 victory with strikes from Mike Jones, Iolo Hughes, Dav Finnie and an OG.

At Under 12 at this level, Borras Park Rangers shared six goals with Acrefair and Lewis Edwards notched all three of the Rangers goals.

Marford and Gresford Albion defeated Brickfield Girls 8-0, star performer for Albion was Helena Griffiths who weighed in with a four goal salvo, completing the rout were Lauren Jones, Emily Sutcliffe(2) and Morgan Forbes.

Mold defeated Buckley by the exact same margin wth Lauren Davies converting a hat-trick, Laura Eagles(2) Rachel Hughes and Hannah Williams(2)

Penycae scalped Bala YFC 5-2, Abbie Davies(2), Jodie Richards(2) and Zoe Johnson made up their nap hand.
