WREXHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE
Summary by Phil Jones

Saturday 5th April 2008

The key action at the weekend was in the Cup arena and we now know who has reached the semi final of the league cup and are just 70 minutes away from featuring at the Wrexham Racecourse come May and all four results went with form.

Ruthin are going to take some stopping but they needed extra time and penalties to polish off Mold Juniors after the game ended 3-3. The Ruthin goals came courtesy of Iolo Hughes, Kristian Pierce and David Finney.

Rhos Aelwyd were back to their best and they accounted for a plucky Borras Park Under 13 side with ease. Making up their nap hand were Josh Griffiths plus Danny Gibbons and Danny Jones who bagged two goals apiece.

Marford and Gresford Albion made the long trek to Bala and they had a stroll in the park to win 6-2. ‘Goal machine’ Joe Broderick weighed in with a four goal salvo with Callum Parry making up the haul.

In the other quarter final, Borras Park Albion U14’s were pushed all of the way by Ruthin Town U13’s who they narrowly defeated 2-1 with strikes from Corey Smart and Matt Kaldowski with Olly Hughes driving the youngsters of Ruthin close.

Turning to the Under 14’s Joe Jones Memorial Cup, there were goals galore, Mold Juniors were in sensational form to whitewash Marchwiel Colts 13-0. The impressive Lee Jones weighed in with a five goal salvo, Adam Roberts, John Jones and Tom Gillett weighed in with two goals apiece with an og and Adam Offless accounting for the rest.

Also amongst the goals were Llay United but in particular Ryan Fisher eight goals to take his tally this season past the 50 goals mark as United slammed Park Youth 12-1. Completing the romp were Matt Worral, Ben Williams and Louis Bagnall with a double salvo after Park had hit back through Hayden Jones.

Corwen Youth came good and they scalped Llangollen Youth 3-0.

There was a real cup epic at The Gresford Colliery where Garden Village netted a last gasp winner to defeat Rhosddu United 4-3. Six goals had been shared, Callum Jones, Owen McGrath with a stunner and Sam Parry had netted for the hosts and a David Bowen treble had this game evenly poised but in a dramatic climax, Parry struck again and this time it proved decisive.

In the mornings league games, at Under 12 level in Section One , Acrefair are back sharing pole position after clinching an 8-4 verdict over Brickfield Rangers. Connor Rogers was top gun and he converted a hat-trick, making up the spree where Joe Francis, Daniel Roberts, Joe Roberts and Jordan Powell with a brace of goals. Hitting back for Brickie were Cameron Woolnough and Gary Ray with a treble.

Cefn United have battled adversity all season and they have come through their first season with much credit and their heads held high despite their league position. They were beaten quite convincingly 8-1 but in ‘true grit’ style, once more they never surrendered. Netting the winners goals were Richard Furmstone, Keiran Jones, Rhys Jones(2) Liam Jones and Matthew Jones with a treble.

Marford and Gresford Albion were able to finish their season on a high with a 4-1 victory at FC Garden Village and netting for Nathan Roberts young warriors were Gareth Hughes(2), Ryan Foulkes and Oliver Dodd on his birthday.

In Section Two, The Borras Park Rangers proved too hot for Borras Park Albion to handle and they crashed to a 5-0 defeat and the Rangers marksmen were Ryan Kershaw, Scott James and Lewis Edwards whose three goal contribution saw his overall tally to exceed the 50 mark.

Garden Village ran up the days highest scores, they crushed Llay United 16-0. There were many scorers and on the scoresheet were Ryan Merril, Brandon Humphreys, Callum Dutton, Jqck Peers, Ross White, Sam Molyneux with a treble plus Nathan and James Gardner who weighed in with double salvo’s.

In the remaining action, Maelor Youth floored Coedpoeth United 4-0 with efforts from Jason Edwards, Taylor Jones and Matty Mills who truck twice.

In the afternoon programme, Venture were able to finally cement their winning of the championship in Under 15 league with the narrowest of wins at Maelor which they shaded 2-1. Hitting back was who else but Lewis Williams.

At Under 16 level, Ruthin Town Youth keep on winning, strikes from Jack S Williams(2) and Gwydion Ifan keep them on top of the pile protecting a five point lead after they defeated Rhos Aelwyd 3-0.

Second placed Rhostyllen maintained their strong presence in the title race and they oozed class as they demolished Park 6-1 and they had two hat-trick heroes in Mark Burrows and the Tibor Blok.

Borras Park Albion slumped to a 2-0 reversal against Garden Village who were on target through a Kenny Dwyer double salvo and the second of which was a real touch of class
.
Coedpoeth United found Marchwiel United in fine form and they won this game with ease 10-1. Taking United into double figures were Ryan Williams with a treble, Phil Tinsley, Oliver Price, Daniel Tudor Owen(2), Kristian Dickenson and Jack Griffiths.
